You can restrict Pandora from playing songs or displaying ads with explicit language on Pandora radio stations. Enabling this filter will limit Pandora to playing music and ads that could play on daytime broadcast radio.

Something to keep in mind is that the Explicit Content filter removes explicit language only, and only for radio stations. Your stations may still play songs that encounter adult themes, situations, or suggestive album artwork, and on-demand content like albums, podcasts and playlists will not be filtered automatically.

In addition, while your personal Explicit Content setting will always be the same across our website, mobile app and desktop app, it will not affect in-home devices such as game systems, TVs and Blu-ray players. These devices filter explicit content by default because they are frequently used in family settings.

To adjust the Explicit Content filter on any in-home device, select the appropriate device under In the Home / On the Go.

Adjust your Explicit Content filter on Android

To adjust your Explicit Content filter from your Android device:

Tap the Profile icon, followed by the Settings gear in the top right corner.
Select Account.
To filter explicit content, switch the Allow Explicit Content option to Off (grey). To allow explicit content, switch the Allow Explicit Content option to On (green).
Tap Save, then enter your password to confirm the changes.

Adjust your Explicit Content filter on iOS

To adjust your Explicit Content filter from your iOS device:

Tap the Profile icon, followed by the Settings gear in the top right corner.
Select Account.
To filter explicit content, switch the Allow Explicit Content option to Off (grey). To allow explicit content, switch the Allow Explicit Content option to On (green).
Tap Save, then enter your password to confirm the changes.

Setting your Explicit Content filter will restrict Pandora from playing tracks on your stations or displaying ads with explicit language.

However, this will not censor tracks, albums, podcasts or playlists with "E" labels.

To adjust your filter on the web:

Click the icon (initial or picture) in the top right corner.
Select Settings, then Content Settings.
Toggle the Explicit Content switch ON to allow explicit content or OFF to restrict explicit content.
Enter your password to confirm changes.

Adjust your Explicit Content filter on the Desktop app

Setting your Explicit Content filter will restrict Pandora from playing tracks on your stations or displaying ads with explicit language.

However, this will not censor tracks, albums, podcasts or playlists with "E" labels.

To adjust your filter from the desktop app:

Select Settings then Content Settings.

...Still having trouble?

If you are still receiving explicit content after enabling the filter, something to keep in mind is that the explicit filter removes explicit language but not content on your stations. This means that you still may encounter adult themes and situations.

It can also be confusing because we will swap the "clean" audio for the explicit version when the filter is turned on, but it will still show the album art of the original album (which may show as "explicit"). So you will see the artwork with the parental advisory label, but you're hearing the edited version of the song. Also, some radio edits are very brief, so you may end up hearing the first and last part of a word which can often sound explicit.

If that isn't what's happening, please create a new thread in the My Collection space and provide us with the following information:

What station did this happen on?
What was the artist?
Which song was it?
Were you able to give the song a Thumbs-down? If not, then please give a Thumbs-down to any explicit songs that might play.

Lastly, the explicit filter will only apply to your stations; it doesn't apply to podcasts. You can identify podcasts with explicit language by a red "E" label in the episode title.
