Neil Young's ongoing music career began in the early 1960s. He has since been called the godfather of grunge and is often credited for helping pioneer country rock and influencing Americana music. After moving from Canada to Los Angeles in the 1960s, Young formed Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills, Richie Furay, Dewey Martin, Bruce Palmer and Jim Messina. Following the band's dissolve, he went solo and then joined Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young before recruiting doo-wop band Danny & The Memories to join him as Crazy Horse. Young has subsequently played with a plethora of other bands (including Devo) and recorded experimental music as well as instrumentals on "Old Black," his famous hot-rodded Les Paul. He has also recorded political protest music, directed films, been sued by his record label, and he's tried to reinvent how we fuel cars and listen to music. Through it all, Neil Young remains a seminal music figure who unapologetically answers to his muse first and foremost.
