💔Love Used To Be

Written after Jewel’s divorce from Ty Murray, this song is a gut‑wrenchingly honest reflection of love lost.
Jewel herself described it as “non‑commercial, six minutes long, without a traditional structure” — more of a lyrical confession than a polished pop track.
The imagery is strikingly mournful: “Dig a six‑foot hole inside my chest / Heart like a gravestone / Lay it down to rest”.
It’s not just sad — it’s existentially heavy, almost funereal in tone, making it one of her darkest pieces.

🙏Mercy

Also from Picking Up the Pieces (2015), “Mercy” is less about a single heartbreak and more about enduring pain and pleading for grace.
