Android: "This station is unavailable." Error Message

Cestepp

I use android and for the last week I get the station unavailable error more and more. It is now happening when I am listening to downloaded songs and all of my stations. How do get Pandora to work again?!

Hi there, @Cestepp. 👋

Sorry to hear that this is happening.

Does this issue occur when you're listening in offline mode?

Is is one station in particular? Or, does this happen with any station?

Can you please send me a screenshot of exactly what you're seeing when that error message pops up?

  • To take a screenshot on your Android device, press the Home button and the Power button (on the right side of your phone) at the same time. You may hear a camera shutter sound (if your volume is turned on), and your screen will be captured.
  • To access your screenshots, go to the Gallery and look in the Screenshots folder. Send this photo as an attachment to your response.

Let me know. 🎧

Why do I get error message "This station is currently unavailable" after playing that station for a few hours? I can switch to another station which instantly works fine. If I switch back, same error message.

I have a screen shot in my Gallery but I don't see how to attach it.

Error Message + Details:

Would you mind providing a bit more info about what you're experiencing?

  • Where are you listening (home, work, or on the go)?
  • Are you using Pandora Modes when experiencing this issue?
  • Is this happening on all your stations or just one?
    • If so, what is the name of the station?

If this is happening on one specific device, please send:

  • Model (i.e. iPhone, Galaxy, etc.):
  • Operating system (i.e. Android 9 or iOS 13):

This will give me a better sense of what's causing this, and we can go from there. 🎧

Aha, I see how to attach now 🤪

This happens in my home use, typically on the weekends when I listen to Pandora a lot.

I think it is happening just on this station. I listen to only two stations.

I have a Galaxy S9+

@jkulas Thanks for confirming that info.

I've taken a look at your account, and I think you're seeing that message pop up as a result of a very high number of Thumbed down tracks on that station.

  • Thumbed down tracks narrow down the song pool and can lead to the error message you are seeing. Thumbed up tracks, on the other hand, act like seeds that inspire similar music to play.
  • To fix the error, you'll need to remove some Thumb Down ratings and continue to Thumb Up those songs that really stand out.
  • Balancing your Thumb ratings can help you tune your stations as you desire.

++

Here's how to edit thumbs from the backstage page:

  1. From My Collection, visit your station list.
  2. Tap on the name of the station you'd like to edit.
    • If you're a Pandora Premium subscriber, this will take you directly to the station's backstage page.
    • If you're a free listener or Pandora Plus subscriber, this will start your station, so tap either the Thumb or small "i" icon in the upper right corner of your screen to continue to the station's backstage page.
  3. From the station's backstage page, tap on the Edit icon (the small pencil to the left of the play button) to edit your station.
  4. Scroll down to either your Thumbed Up Songs or your Thumbed Down Songs.
  5. Tap the 'X' beside whichever thumb ratings you'd like to remove.

Hope this information is helpful. Let me know if you continue to have trouble with this. 🎧

What is you play on shuffle all the time and are getting that message?  It doesn't tell you what station is unavailable.  How do I know which station to modify my thumbs down on?

Hey there, @mkasprzak70. 👋

Is your Shuffle selection still the same right now? Is it a customized shuffle?

Or, are you clicking on "Shuffle All"?

Also, can you share a photo of when the error message pops up during your listening session?

Let me know, and I can take a deeper look for you. 🎧

It is "Shuffle All" and funny enough, I haven't gotten the error message since I sent in my question.  However, it is the same message that jkulas screenshot above.

@mkasprzak70 Thanks for the update. I would recommend running through these steps while I have a trace enabled on your account, to see if helps with that error message: Android Troubleshooting

If the issue persists, could you mind sharing a screenshot so that I can see when the error message pops up? I'd also like to share your device info with our engineering team should it continue.

  • Model:
  • Carrier:
  • Android version (Settings > About Phone):
  • Pandora version (Go to Profile, then select Settings. Scroll to the bottom of the screen for the version number):
  • Are you connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data when this is happening?

Appreciate you sticking with me on this. Let me know. 🎧

Before I clear the data, will this erase all of my saved stations?

@mkasprzak70 Clearing the app data won't remove your collection. With Plus and Premium subscribers, you may be required to re-download their offline tunes.

Thanks so much for providing that information. I've shared this with our engineering team on your behalf. 🎧

I get this error on my android as well as on my laptop when trying to play any station they are all broken it seems. Can you fix this as it is a backend issue not a phone/laptop issue.

Thanks
