Apple CarPlay connectivity

Pandora will not play on Apple CarPlay once iPhone is connected by way of the charging chord.  Pandora will play through Bluetooth but cuts out once the connection is attempted by means of charging chord.  Why is this happening and what can be done to fix the situation ?
