Clara Schumann, born Clara Wieck, is considered one of the most talented, distinguished, and innovative composersโpianists of the Romantic era. She innovated piano performance, toured frequently, taught at the conservatory level and was a close friend of composer Johannes Brahms, premiering many of his compositions. Her contributions in composition to the Western classical music canon have often been overshadowed by her husband Robert Schumann, who got most of the credit during her lifetime. But we can now enjoy her music as a powerful voice of the Romantic era.
