Mavis Staples has been singing professionally since she was a teenager. Refining her talent in the church, her family group, The Staples Singers, she hit the road touring when she graduated from high school. Staples marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., performed at John F. Kennedy’s inauguration, and sang in Barack Obama’s White House. With no signs of slowing down, she's a Grammy winner, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and recognized as a Kennedy Center Honoree. Staples is still actively recording and touring and has collaborated with Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, Arcade Fire, Hozier, Gorillaz, Prince, Ben Harper, and Jeff Tweedy. Staples considers herself a a messenger of love, justice, brotherhood, and joy.
