@NayNayMan0051, here are some recommendations.
Here’s a mix of timeless and modern sad songs that hit hard:
| Ain’t No Sunshine | Bill Withers | Captures the emptiness of lost love |
| Someone Like You | Adele | Iconic heartbreak anthem |
| The Night We Met | Lord Huron | Nostalgic and haunting |
| Everybody Hurts | R.E.M. | Comforting yet deeply emotional |
| Skinny Love | Bon Iver | Fragile, raw breakup song |
| Candle in the Wind | Elton John | Tribute full of sorrow |
That’s a great question! When you say “post songs,” do you mean:
Uploading your own music as an artist so it can be added to Pandora’s library? (This requires going through Pandora’s submission process via a distributor and their AMP platform.)
Or are you talking about sharing playlists/recommendations with other listeners in the community? (In that case, you can start a thread and list songs or playlists you love, and others can join in.)
The process is different depending on which one you’re aiming for, so if you clarify, folks here can point you in the right direction.
Take care and GOD bless.
@NayNayMan0051 I was going to re-edit my last reply, but I feel this should be in a post of its own. Pandora may combine this with my previous response; if they do, then that, of course, is fine.
Written after Jewel’s divorce from Ty Murray, this song is a gut‑wrenchingly honest reflection of love lost.
Jewel herself described it as “non‑commercial, six minutes long, without a traditional structure” — more of a lyrical confession than a polished pop track.
The imagery is strikingly mournful: “Dig a six‑foot hole inside my chest / Heart like a gravestone / Lay it down to rest”.
It’s not just sad — it’s existentially heavy, almost funereal in tone, making it one of her darkest pieces.
Also from Picking Up the Pieces (2015), “Mercy” is less about a single heartbreak and more about enduring pain and pleading for grace.
The repeated refrain “I’m being broken again and again / I’ll keep being broken until I remain open” captures the paradox of suffering as a path to openness.
Where “Love Used To Be” feels like a burial of love, “Mercy” feels like a cry for survival and resilience through suffering.
It’s sad, but tinged with a spiritual undertone — sadness with a faint glimmer of redemption.
“Love Used To Be” → Pure grief, a dirge for love itself. It’s arguably one of Jewel’s saddest songs, heavy with imagery of death and endings.
“Mercy” → Still deeply sad, but more about the ongoing struggle and the hope that pain can transform. It’s sorrow mixed with a plea for compassion.
If we were to “rate” them on sadness:
Love Used To Be = devastatingly sad, almost unbearable in its honesty.
Mercy = sad but with a thread of resilience, making it slightly less bleak but still emotionally intense.
👉In Jewel’s catalog, both songs stand out as masterclasses in emotional vulnerability. “Love Used To Be” is the kind of song you listen to when you’re mourning something final, while “Mercy” is for when you’re still in the fight, asking for strength to endure.
Well, that is my take on these two similar yet different songs by Jewel. Take care and GOD bless.
Thanks @MOHLovesAlaska.
I'll take alook at them some time tomorrow God bless stay safe
