Google Home - No longer shuffles stations

GregDu4

My Pandora works great everywhere, except on Google Home.  When I try to shuffle my stations, it plays some weird music that I have never heard of  (whoever put that default playlist in there has really BAD taste in music).

Please create a ticket and let me know when this is resolved.

Hey @GregDu4 - thanks for posting, sorry for any trouble.

I’ve enabled a trace on your account to help us better understand what’s happening. I'll need you to use Pandora with your Google Home while this trace is enabled.

Also, can you give me some examples of the out of place music that you're hearing? Additionally, can you let me know the command you used when asking Google to shuffle your stations.

Thanks for the help!

I have tried several variations of " Hey Google, Shuffle my Pandora stations",

" Hey Google, Play my Pandora stations",

" Hey Google, Play my Thumbprint station" (not sure if this is set up correctly),

plus countless other variations.

Could you tell me what the API from Google is expecting.  I am going to execute some request in the next half hour ( 1:53 PM - EST thru  2:30 PM - EST).  I will try to take note of the artist that are playing (in the past it is usually artist that I don't recognize).

Response from Google home device:  Playing Stations Radio from Pandora, Cat Power - This is next (what Genre or decade is this from - maybe I should ask what decade I am from 🙂  )

Hello Community.  This is my first post, hope you can help.

I have Nest Mini Speakers.   I want to tell Google to play my Shuffle Stations option on Pandora.

I can't seem to do that.  I can tell it to play different stations but not Shuffle them.

Help Please if you've figured this out.

@tmassimin Nice to see you around the Community. 👋🏽

To shuffle your stations on your Google Home device, Say:

  • "Ok Google" or “Hey Google,” then:
  • "Shuffle," "Shuffle <album>," "Shuffle some music," "Play <album> and shuffle," "Play <album> shuffled," or "Play <album> on shuffle"

You can also use an artist or playlist name instead of an album name.

Check out this page for more information about voice controls while listening to Pandora on Google Home devices.

Hope this helps!

I have a GH mini in my bathroom.

I asked GH to play a certain artist and now GH is stuck on that person.

I asked GH to shuffle pandora, Shuffle Playlist, Play Chris's shuffle, etc.

I have reset both the GH mini  and the device setup in GH mini.

I have been talking to google via DM on Twitter but I've done everything they've said...

Reset GH, reset the app, ask it this, ask it that... Nothing

Any ideas on how to get GH to go back to shuffling Pandora again?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi @CWM030! Thanks for posting your experience to community. Sorry for any trouble shuffling on your Google Home.

Can you give me a little more info about your experience.

  • The exact voice command you are using.
  • To clarify, Google acknowledges your request and then plays a single station instead, or plays nothing at all?

I've enabled a trace on your Pandora account to help us out. I may need you to repeat some of the troubleshooting steps that you've already performed, but I will let you know.

Thank you!

Thanks for the screenshots, @CWM030. I'm going to create a ticket and pass this conversation along to our engineering team for further investigation as well.

Thanks for your patience while we look into this.

I'm having this exact same problem. I used to say hey Google, play Pandora on shop radio (my gh speaker group). It would automatically shuffle and play. Now when I say this it says there was a problem please try again. I then say hey Google, play Pandora, it says ok playing Pandora on shop radio 🤦🏼‍♀️, it then plays music, but not shuffling and not playing any music I am familiar with.

Before I always say hey Google, play Pandora on shop radio (my Google home speaker group). It would automatically shuffle my Pandora stations. Now when I say this, I get a reply that says, there is a problem try again. I then say hey Google, play Pandora. It then replies ok playing Pandora on shop radio. The music plays but it does not shuffle and is playing a station I am not familiar with. I see others are having same issue, anyone found a solution yet?

Hi @SH3 and @SH31! Thanks for posting your experience.

The best way to ensure that your stations are shuffled is to use the voice command: “Hey, Google, play my shuffle station”

Sometimes, folks will be able to use Pandora using an unsupported voice command, but that functionality may break unintentionally due to updates to the app or OS meant to address other issues.

If you continue have trouble with voice commands, Google is really interested in what's happening when your Google Home device doesn't understand your request, or starts the wrong station.

As a result, they've asked us to refer listeners back to them when this happens.

Could you request that content from your Google Home again? Then, if your device still fails to launch Pandora correctly, file feedback with Google by saying "OK Google, file feedback."

This will send a diagnostic report to Google which will allow them to investigate what's going on.

Hi, I just signed up for Pandora Plus in order to play my Shuffle Station (a composite of all my stations) on my various Google devices.

On Google Home, the command "Play my shuffle station on Pandora" plays a completely different station from anything I have set up in my account. (It sounds like a New Releases and/or hip-hop station, and I don't have anything like that in my Collections/Stations).

On Google Assistant from my Android phone, the command "Play my shuffle station on Pandora" does absolutely nothing. No reply, no music.

What is the correct voice command to play my shuffle station on Pandora?

Thanks,

Keith

Yes, same issues here. "Hey Google, shuffle my music on Pandora"... and silence. Also same if I try to cast shuffle from the app. I can play individual stations with no issue.

Hi @thompsonwes! Thanks for posting your experience.

Can you let me know the steps you are taking when trying to cast and shuffle from your mobile?

Thank you!

When I give Google this command, it gives me a random Pandora radio shuffle, it is not shuffling my personal music

Hi. I am having the same issue! It used to play my Pandora shuffle, within a couple of months ago, it stopped! My command is "hey Google, play my Pandora shuffle " I too have reset everything associated with it. What is the problem?

Hi, what this user is requesting is a way to play your Shuffle stations using voice commands. Currently, the only way to do so is by selecting the Shuffle stations on your phone and then casting to your device, which in my experience is a very clunky solution as Pandora seems to have some issues with casting seamlessly to google home devices.

So is there any update here a year later as this is still very much an issue.
