Yes, he wrote "Sweet Caroline." But before becoming a successful solo singer, Neil Diamond was a songwriter working in the legendary American songwriting mill, the Brill Building. There he wrote hits like "Sunday And Me" for Jay And The Americans as well as "I'm A Believer," "A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You," "Love To Love" and "Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow)" for The Monkees. He also wrote songs for Elvis Presley, Deep Purple, Cliff Richard, Lulu and many others. But back to "Sweet Caroline" - did you know he penned that song for Caroline Kennedy? It only took him an hour to write it and although it's his most recognizable hit, it never charted as a No. 1 single. By the end of the 1970s, Diamond was so popular, he landed a leading film role in a remake of The Jazz Singer. The 1980s found him scoring a hit with "Heartlight," inspired by the movie E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. He also worked with Rick Rubin in 2005. Today, he is considered one of the best selling musicians of all time.
