In celebration of International Women’s Day, Pandora is recognizing all of the badass females of the music industry– not just the ones making magic on the stage, but the ones doing it behind the soundboards, too. From the lyricists who are inspiring us on the daily with empowering messages, to the producers who are trailblazing in a male-dominated field, and the artists who are breaking musical records left and right, we are honoring the women who are uniquely and fiercely themselves, and making music that allows us to feel that way, too.

Record-Breaking Women in History: A historical who’s who of female artists with record-breaking musical accomplishments including Ariana Grande, Beyonce, Billie Eilish, Madonna and more. Tune in for top-spinning songs by female artists on Pandora with narration by Lori Majewski – host of ‘Fierce: Women in Music’ and ‘Feedback’ on SiriusXM’s Volume channel and Pandora podcast.

Women of the Board: A playlist full of songs that have been produced by women, beginning with tracks helmed by the artists themselves, like Tokimonsta, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift, and moving on to highlight studio wizards and acclaimed boardsmiths in the more traditional sense, from longtime Korn producer Lauren Christy, to the legendary Linda Perry.

Some fun IWD fun facts:

  • In case you were too busy breaking up with your boyfriend because you were bored, Ariana Grande became the first artist to achieve the top three Billboard Hot 100 spots since The Beatles in 1964.
  • Pop singer Bebe Rexha smashed the previous record for most weeks atop the Hot Country Songs chart, fighting off all challengers for 50 weeks.
  • Still just 18, this year’s It girl just made history as the youngest recording artist to win all four major Grammy categories – Best New Artist and Record, Song, and Album of the Year – in one haul.
  • Who’s that girl who has grossed more concert touring money than any other solo artist in history? That would be Madonna, of course.
  • The first song to top one million downloads was Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl,” in 2004. You know what that is? B-A-N-A-N-A-S.
  • Which artist had the most single-week download sales since the digital era began? Hello?! It’s Adele!
  • Katy Perry holds the record for most consecutive Number One dance songs, with 18. She owns the night. Cue the Fireworks.
  • Taylor Swift can’t stop, won’t stop when it comes to Number One debuts — she currently holds the record, with 14. We have a feeling she won’t be shaking that honor off anytime soon.
  • Only one artist has won an Oscar, a Grammy, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award all in the same year: Lady Gaga, for her work in ‘A Star Is Born.’ That’s deep. Here’s “Shallow.”
  • There’s just one artist who had their first five singles reach Number One. All the feels for Mariah Carey. All of them.
  • Queen B was the record industry’s top certified artist of the 2000s, and she’s still irreplaceable. Give it up for Beyonce.
  • The best-selling country album of all time is Shania Twain’s 1997 blockbuster ‘Come on Over.’ To date, it has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide.
  • Britney Spears was just 18 when she released her debut album ‘Baby One More Time,’ and it’s still the best-selling album by a teenage solo artist. As if that wasn’t enough to drive her fans crazy, she did it again a year later – debuted at Number One, that is.
  • Bluegrass beauty Alison Krauss is the most-awarded singer in Grammy history, with 27 wins under her belt. She must’ve taken some advice from her hit song “Stay,” because it doesn’t look like she’s going anywhere.
  • Carrie Underwood won the fourth season of ‘American Idol,’ and then she really took the wheel: she’s the best-selling artist in the history of the franchise.
