Thanks so much for providing this helpful information, and for your feedback, @Jjman739. I'm very sorry if this caused a negative listening experience.

Rest assured, I've reported this over to our advertising team to investigate.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if anything else pops up.

Inappropriate ads

Local Performer

Is there a way to stop inappropriate ads from playing? I listen to Pandora all day with my 7-year-old children, and on various stations (none that use explicit language), Adam & Eve sex toys have been advertised. It’s impossible to turn down the volume quickly enough every time these ads are played. I do not want a subscription and am happy to listen to ads, but this is completely inappropriate for my children.

Please advise on how I can fix this or maybe you can create a way for users to choose the ad experience they would prefer. Thank you.

Hi, @JFR. 👋

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback on the Pandora Community.  I completely understand where you're coming from.

I would recommend upvoting this existing feature request if you'd like to see this option implemented: Choosing the Types of Ads

In the meantime, someone from our User Support team has reached out to you via email. If you don't see the message soon, please check your spam / junk folder to make sure it didn't end up there. 📬

"I find it hard to believe you dont have a cache of many different potential ads to show."

I'd like to think that too, but if that were the case, just the law of averages alone would prevent me from hearing Adam & Eve ads nearly every single ad break.  Is no one else advertising on Pandora?  Perhaps your sales team isn't doing their job well...  Streaming music is common place now and not going away, surely countless businesses would love to get in on it....but nah, let's stick with ED and sex toys 🙄

Does it matter?  I've heard it on comedy stations, rock stations, folk music, etc, etc.  It's everywhere and you offer NO way to tell Pandora that we don't find this appropriate.  You're not giving us a way to tell you, so you continue doing what you're doing thinking everyone's cool with it.  Clearly we're not cool with it, someone needs to step up and make a change.  It's not like you're spending a bunch of time updating stations, I hear the same 100 songs on every single station.  At least fix some major failures that we're all asking for.

Swearing in ad's

Local Performer

My current Pandora is setup for those who are religious. While listening an ad came up, it was a new song from some lady, and the ad said the N-word. I would like to ask if you could try to filter it a little bit more. Thank you.

@Layne Nice to see you around the community. 👋🏽

Enabling your Explicit Filter:

To begin, it looks like you currently are allowing explicit content to play on your account.

This is what I am seeing:

Screen Shot 2020-07-16 at 5.13.58 AM.png

You might want to restrict Pandora from playing songs with explicit content. When you do that, you not only remove songs with explicit lyrical content, you also remove some ads that are not intended for people who have demonstrated an aversion to explicit content. As a result, this option may remove some advertisements that might offend you.

To disable explicit content from our website on a computer, click the icon (initial or picture) on the top right corner of the page, select Settings, and then Content Settings.

There, you should see an Explicit Content toggle, which indicates whether you would like to allow explicit content or not. Set this to Off.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Artist Messaging:

Based off of the description you provided in your post, it sounds like you heard an artist message.

These are messages made by artists or curators on Pandora, alerting you of new music, tours in your area, or just thanking you for listening. You have the option of disabling Artist or Discovery Messages to prevent them from playing on your account.

To do that on a mobile device:

  1. Go to Profile.
  2. Tap the Settings gear in the top right corner and then Advanced.
  3. Scroll down to Artist Audio Messages. If they are enabled, you will see something like Playing on 15 Stations. Tap that to view which stations have these messages enabled.
  4. If there's a particular artist you'd like to continue to hear from, or who you think you might like to see in concert, I'd recommend disabling the artist messages on a station-by-station basis. If you'd prefer to remove all the messages instead, simply turn off the Play Artist Audio Messages toggle.

To do that from your computer:

  1. Click the icon (initial or picture) in the top right corner of the page.
  2. Select Settings, then Content Settings.
  3. Toggle the switch to turn Artist Audio Messages Off, or if you'd like to disable these messages for specific stations, uncheck individual boxes underneath Play Artist Audio Messages.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

This all being said, if that artist message happens to play again for you after enabling your Explicit Filter, and turning off Artist Audio Messages with the instructions I provided above, please try and grab a screenshot of what you are seeing and attach it in a reply to this thread.

Also make note of the name of the artist and song that is being promoted.

Thanks for working with me on this. 🤝

Appalled at Pandora

Local Performer

I am appalled at Pandora and what they choose to advertise on a family radio station. There is nothing wrong  with COVID advertising reminding people to stay safe however it is NOT OK to use extreme and aggressive scare tactics telling my children saying they or their family/friends will DIE from it. I will not be using Pandora anymore!

@kmattson26 I'm happy to look into this for you, but I'll need a bit more information first.

Could you tell me a little more?

Please include as much of the below information as possible:

  1. What was the ad for? Do you remember the brand, product, event or website name?
  2. How are you accessing Pandora? Are you on a computer, phone, tablet or in-home device (TV, Xbox, Blu-ray player, etc.)?
  3. Was it a visual ad, an audio ad, or a video ad with audio?
  4. Which of your station(s) did you hear/see it on?
  5. What time of day did this advertisement play?

If you're able to get a screenshot of what's happening, please send that along as well.

Once I have more information about the ad, I can pass it along to our advertising team.

We really appreciate your help with this! 🤝

Explicit, Vulgar, and Family Inappropriate Advertisements

Local Performer

Hello,

I listen to music around my children frequently. I do not want Bluechew, or any other sexual, alcoholic, content. While we are on the subject vulgar language has increasingly appeared in my adds. Note. Do not give me your "solution" that I just need to turn off "explicit" content. This is "explicit" content, advertising damaging things that I have the right to expect your platform not to subject my family too. If this can not be fixed I will simply remove my account.

This is actually false. For example, the Bluechew advertisement is still enabled even though explicit content is disabled. I will be removing my account from pandora over their policy. Move to a different platform for music is my best advice.

@djgriffin13 I definitely understand your frustration.

As long as your explicit filer is enabled, those type of advertisements shouldn't play on your account.

I'm happy to look into this for you since it sounds like that is not the case, but I'll need a bit more information first. Could you tell me a little more?

Please include as much of the below information as possible:

  1. How are you accessing Pandora? Are you on a computer, phone, tablet or in-home device (TV, Xbox, Blu-ray player, etc.)?
  2. Was it a visual ad, an audio ad, or a video ad with audio?
  3. Which of your station(s) did you hear/see it on?
  4. Is this ad still playing on your account?
  5. When was the last day this advertisement played? (a rough estimate is okay if you don't remember the specific day)

Once I have more information about the ad, I can pass it along to our advertising team.

We really appreciate your help with this!

Why???

Local Performer

Today Aug 1, 2020 at 7:53 pm EST time I heard a ad from the KKK thanking N*^*^*^ for killing each other and keep up the good work so they don’t have to do it themselves! In this day and age do I as a customer have to listen to this RACIST **ahem**??? This is the second time in a week I’ve heard this ad! I tried to email your customer service department but got nothing so I decided to put my complaint here to see if any action will be taken!

@Cee7 I checked in with our support team, and they do not see any messages from you in their queue regarding this issue.

That being said, I have escalated your feedback over to them.

They will be contacting you privately via email to gather additional details on this ad you heard.

Please keep an eye out for their message.
