Even with everything I just stated about Amazon Music, I still can't stop loving Pandora!

I listen to Amazon Music HD from an Android device connected to a USB DAC dongle and it sounds fantastic. It even sounds great through my Bluetooth headphones that employ the Qualcomm aptX Adaptive and LDAC codecs, which my phone is able to take advantage of. I've tried Apple Music, Qobuz and Tidal. To these ears, Amazon Music HD sounds the best, with no need for any special equipment. I love Folk, Blues, Roots and Americana genres and Amazon Music provides plenty of great curated playlists that satisfies my appetite for these musical styles and where I've been able discover new artists. On the Google Play store it's showing as the number one top grossing for music and audio. Seems to me they're not having a revenue problem. Of course, we know that we are a minority when it comes to wanting higher quality sound out of the Pandora app. It may explain why even Spotify, after announcing lossless, decided not even to move forward with it and hopes that it's listeners will just stop with the high-res music request. Millions of listeners to these apps and most of them can care less or even notice that it sounds bad. I'm still exploring it, but of late I've been listening to the Tidal app on Android. I'll see where this leads me. Get Outlook for Android<>

It would be nice but it seems obvious that it's never going to happen. Get Outlook for Android<>

I'm a big fan of 774 Opus variable bitrate that YouTube Music uses for its highest stream rate. Since it's lossy I don't get why Pandora can't transition over to that codec. The only thing that I can conclude is that it's not technically possible on their platform. Of course, if they would just provide an explanation that would be nice. Get Outlook for Android<>

The interesting things is that it actually sounds better on the SiriusXM platform. That was some time ago that I listened via the SiriusXM platform on Android, so I'm not sure if today that's the case. Get Outlook for Android<>

Yeah I'm no longer subscribed to Pandora. I've moved over to Amazon Music and Apple Music. I also use YouTube premium, which includes YouTube music, that has come a long way. Get Outlook for Android<>

I've been a lossless high-res fanatic since it was introduced into streaming. There is no question that it sounds better than any lossy codec. I'm just pointing out that if Pandora has technical limitations maybe they can consider a free and open source lossy codec like Opus. If you haven't tried streaming Amazon Music in the standard setting or YouTube music in the normal setting go ahead and try it. Let me know what you think. Get Outlook for Android<>

I totally agree! Anytime I listen to Pandora I always have a smile on my face. I cannot say that about the others. Listen to Amazon Music in standard streaming quality. It sounds great! Why? Because they encode music at that setting with the Opus codec. Listen to YouTube music in the normal setting. It sounds great! Why because they encode music at that setting with the Opus codec. If technically high res is unattainable for Pandora they should encode using Opus - open source and free. Do you really want to be blown away? Now listen to Spotify streaming at their low level. Guess what? It sounds great! Why? At that setting Spotify encodes music with HE-AACv2 (24kbps), which actually sounds better than their highest setting at 320 kilobits per second. Why? because it's a superior codec to Ogg Vorbis, which is what Spotify uses at the highest setting. My vote is for the free, open source Opus codec. Pandora are you listening or do you just not care?

I'm currently trying LiveOne by Slacker, Inc. There's a free radio tier with ads. I listened to one short ad and was able to listen for one hour uninterrupted. Not sure of the ongoing free experience though since I quickly subscribed at the low cost Plus tier to eliminate ads. You can get higher bit rates up to 320 kbps at the low price Plus subscription tier - even less if paid annually. There's also an on demand option available. Just sharing what seems to be a good alternative. I'm not affiliated with LiveOne in any capacity. Happy listening! 😁

Yeah I'll have to check out Amazon Music again. I've been using Apple Music, Tidal, Deezer and Qobuz. All of which offer higher bit rate streaming. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah I've been using Tidal and Amazon Music HD. I've been leaning towards Tidal because for some reason it even sounds good via Bluetooth with aptX Adaptive Audio codec from Qualcomm. Of course it sounds optimal when streaming with a DAC.

I agree with you! Even LiveOne, formally Slacker radio, streams at 320 kbps at their plus membership level. [Image] Get Outlook for Android<>

Yeah, I currently toggle between YouTube music, Amazon Music HD and Tidal Hi-Fi Plus. I'm noticing that these services radio or similar music playing options have improved greatly. No, it's not music genome but the sound quality more than makes up for it in my opinion. Get Outlook for Android<>
