Windows Desktop App: Long songs start over

wisepeppy
Diamond in the Rough

When streaming on-demand music, sometimes while it's in the middle of a track, the desktop app will suddenly stop and restart that track from the beginning. Happens fairly regularly (several times during a workday of listening). This is entirely spontaneous and not a result of anything I'm doing - it can happen when I'm not even touching the mouse or keyboard, so it's no accident. v. 15.0.3.0

Not yet... I'll give it try and see what happens.

I did each of those (Windows) to no avail - the Desktop app still spontaneously restarted songs after trying each of those (resetting the app, then un/reinstalling). Could be coincidental, but it might only be happening on long tracks. e.g. I just watched it happen on The Background World by NIN (11:44) - the track restarted around the half-way mark.

Hi, @wisepeppy. 👋

Thanks for following up with that information. I can share your feedback with our tech team for you. It's helpful to know these additional details:

  1. Make and model of your device:
  2. Mode: Desktop or Tablet?
  3. Network (Wi-Fi or 3G/4G/LTE):
  4. Pandora version (under Pandora Settings on the bottom left):
  5. Windows version & build:
  6. Are there any error messages? If so, what do they say?
  7. Are you able to stream Pandora normally through a web browser like Chrome or Firefox?

Let me know. 🎧

4th time trying to post this reply - it keeps disappearing... trying a different browser:

1. Lenovo Thinkpad X12
2. Mode... of the application?  The X12 is a tablet which I'm using on a dock as a 'desktop' PC. The Pandora app is the desktop version from the Microsoft Store, used in its... default mode?
3. Wi-Fi (blazing fast fiber internet w/ rock solid service)
4. 15.0.3 (recently un/reinstalled)
5. Windows 10 Pro, v. 22H2, OS build 19045.4046
6. No error messages, the song just spontaneously restarts, as if I had pressed the 'track back' button myself. The issue does seem to be confined to just very long tracks.
7. Yes - I listened to a playlist of long (8-12 minute) songs yesterday using MS Edge, and it played fine. Today I tried the desktop app again, and about half way into the 2nd long song, that song restarted when it reached somewhere around the 5-minute mark.

Me too for about two or three months, possibly longer because something stopped me from using Pandora a year ago. Dell Inspiron 15 32 GB Ram, 512 GB SSD 60% full. None of this even matters because this is obviously bad coding on your part. Is it going to be fixed or do I publicly start a campaign to make the world aware of the problem? If I suffered in silence, I'm sure there's plenty of your other customers doing the same thinking it's their system of hardware.

I also have had this happen in the Windows app. No rhyme nor reason. It does seem to be longer songs, though.

I'm running Windows 11, using the Pandora app, and whenever I play a long song it will stop and start at the beginning of the song. It does it without fail, so I can never listen to an entire long track.

@pancolcc4e Thanks for reaching out.

Let's try some troubleshooting steps to see if we can resolve the issue.

First, try resetting the Pandora app from the Help menu (not to worry, we'll keep track of your profile and collection for you). Press Alt on your keyboard to bring up a menu options at the top of the page, then select Help and Reset App Data.

If you're still having issues, try uninstalling and reinstalling using the following steps:

  1. Locate Pandora in your Start Menu, and right-click to reveal an additional menu. Select Uninstall from the dropdown menu. From there, select Pandora from the list and confirm by selecting Uninstall once more.
  2. Next, find our app in the Windows Store on your device. Search for Pandora in the upper right corner and click or tap Get to re-install.

Please note that downloading any application on your devices requires a Microsoft account and password, and it may be a different email address and password than those on your Pandora account.

Also, we do not support Pandora on unofficial OS releases, like preview or developer builds. We only support Pandora on configurations that we have fully tested, so as to ensure the application will work correctly and not cause any problems with functions of the device.

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

I already tried that and nothing helped. What I did do is turn off auto play and it seemed to have worked for one long song (9-10 minutes). I'll try it more extensively later. Thanks.

If this happens again, could you share the name of the song along with the time and date it played. Thanks for the follow up, @pancolcc4e. 🎧

This happens daily to me. Just now, twice, on Jane's Addiction "Three Days", which is barely over 10 minutes. Just restarts itself about 2/3s through the song.

If I listen to Tool's Fear Inoculum, every song over 10 minutes seems to restart itself at least once per playthrough.

I have been frustrated with the same issue. It definitely has something to do with long songs but doesn’t seem to be consistent. Does seen to happen to songs longer that 10:00, but does not restart at 10:00.

I did some testing today and here are the results:

Push.it (9:55) played all the way through (sorry, it won't let me use the actual song name)

Culling Voices (10:05) restarted at about 6:49

Pneuma (11:53) restarted at 9:00

7empest (15:43) restarted at about 12:44

Edit:

Today I had it happen on a song much shorter than 10:00.

Loose Yourself - Live at Civic Theater, Newcastle, Australia (8:14) Restarted at 5:16, right in the middle of "nine to five".

This has been happening for months on Windows 10. I contacted support and did all troubleshooting steps with no success. I set up a new Windows 11 PC, installed Pandora first thing and it happened within minutes so it can't be a cache issue like you keep trying to blame it on and is still happening. I can't understand with all the people having the issue that you can't provide a solution. It only seems to happen on songs longer than 5 minutes. The song will just start over without warning or error and the song will keep starting over and over and over until I click on the time bar. The odd thing about that is I can click on the same spot it starts over from and the song with finish. It is so frustrating that I'm thinking about abandoning Pandora. The sad thing is that I really like Pandora. Please fix it!!!

Please fix this! It has nothing to do with any cache or settings! I've been suffering with this for over a year now. I've done all the troubleshooting you've suggested with no resolution. That was on Windows 10. I've recently setup a new PC with Windows 11. I installed Pandora first thing and it started playing a long track over and over within minutes. It's so frustrating that I'm thinking about trying Spotify again and that's sad because other than this, Pandora is much better. It doesn't do it on all long tracks and it doesn't even to it all the time on the same track. The Android or Roku apps don't do it. Only the Windows app. It is very annoying and frustrating that you don't seem to want to fix it! Please fix it!!!
