Pandora shutdown when using other apps. How can I correct this?

@PoppaBear depending on your device you have you can try these self help steps.

Android has aggressive background restrictions that will kill music streams to save battery or memory.

 Turn Off Battery Optimization

1. Open your phone's Settings.

2. Tap Apps (or Apps & Notifications).

3. Select Pandora from the list.

4. Tap Battery.

5. Change the setting from Optimized or Restricted to Unrestricted.

Remove Pandora from "Sleeping Apps"

1. Go to your phone's Settings and look for Device Care or Battery.

2. Look for Background Usage Limits or Sleeping Apps.

3. Ensure Pandora is not on the list of sleeping apps. If it is, long-press it and remove it.

 Manage "Audio Focus" Disruption

If Pandora stops specifically when you open social media (like Instagram or TikTok) or games, it is because those apps demand "audio focus" to play ads or video previews, forcing Android to mute Pandora.

• Go into the settings of the other apps you are using and disable autoplay video previews or mute their default sound.

If you are on an iPhone, the issue is almost always related to another app hijacking the phone's audio system.

1. Disable Autoplay Previews on Aggressive Apps

Apps like Facebook, Instagram, or games will override Pandora's audio as soon as a video loads on your feed.

1. Open your iPhone's Settings and tap Accessibility.

2. Scroll to the bottom and select Per-App Settings.

3. Tap Add App and choose the app causing the shutdown (e.g., Facebook).

4. Tap on the app's name within that menu, find Auto-Play Video Previews, and set it to Off.

 Turn Off Microphone Access

Some apps activate your phone's microphone when opened, which temporarily pauses background music.

1. Go to iPhone Settings.

2. Scroll down to your list of apps and tap the app that is disrupting Pandora.

3. Toggle the Microphone switch to Off.

I hope you will find these steps to be helpful. Take care, and GOD bless.

@PoppaBear Sorry for the trouble.

Could you explain what's happening in more detail? The more information you can provide, the better I can help.

What are the names of some of the other apps you are using when Pandora shuts down?

Additionally, when this issue occurs:

  • What exactly happens when you say Pandora shuts down? Does the app completely exit and you are brought back to your phone's home screen?
  • Is the app still open in the background where you're able to press play and resume music or do you need to close and relaunch the app to continue listening?
  • Are you listening to a station, album, playlist, or podcast?
  • Are you connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data?
    •  If using Wi-Fi, are you able to recover the listening session by toggling Wi-Fi off?
  • Are you using a Bluetooth connection?

Additionally, please provide your device model, Android OS, One UI (if on Samsung), and Pandora app versions:

  • Model:
  • Android version (Settings > About Phone > Android version):
  • One UI version: (Settings > About Phone > Software information):
  • Pandora version (Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Find Pandora):

Thanks for your help!
