Roku: Log-in or unexpected server error

Patty1515
Opening Act

Pandora on Roku keeps wanting me to log in every time I start the app. When I try to use the code to log in I get an error page that says, "Server Error. We're sorry, but there has been an unexpected error with our server. Please try again, or visit the Pandora Home Page." When I use email and password, sometimes it works, sometimes not.  This has only recently started happening. We've been listening to Pandora on Roku for years.

Thanks.

@Pintada I moved your post over to this existing thread: Roku - Log in error

It sounds like you are experiencing two separate issues:

  • you receive an error message when attempting to log into the device
  • the app crashes when you are finally able to log in

I've enabled a trace on your account to help us better understand what's happening.

For this trace to be useful, we'll need you to run through our troubleshooting steps:

  • Try rebooting your modem and router, then restarting the Roku player.
  • Try connecting directly with an Ethernet cable rather than using Wi-Fi, if the option is available for your model.

If you are still having trouble, please try using the steps in the following link to update your Roku software: https://support.roku.com/article/208755668-how-to-update-the-software-on-your-roku-streaming-device

Finally, try deleting the Pandora channel from My Channels, and try re-adding it from the Channel Store. (You can find the Remove channel option by pressing the * key on your remote while the Pandora channel is highlighted on the home screen.)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

If this does not resolve either issue, could you tell me more about your Roku device?

  • What is the model? ROKU - model 4802X
  • What is the serial number? (Settings > System > About)
  • What Roku software version is your device using? (Settings > System > About)
  • What Pandora channel version are you on? (Highlight the Pandora channel icon and select the * key.)

Thanks for working with me on this. 🤝

Hi @AdamPandora !

Are there any updates on this?  It seems I'm not the only one running into this loop!

Thanks!

Yeah mine is still not working... it works on all my other devices, but not the Roku app on the TCL TV.

Hi @luckbydesign and @Patty1515! Sorry to hear you're still having trouble with your Roku.

Unfortunately, our engineers have been unable to reliably reproduce this issue but rest assured that it is being worked on. I've updated the ticket to include that you're still experiencing this problem with your Roku.

Thanks for your patience in the meantime.

Hi Tanner. My Pandora works fine now. It somehow seemed to fix itself.
Perhaps just a glitch with Pandora and Roku. So, for me, all is ok.

I'm having the same problem with both Roku and Apple streaming sticks.  Both have worked for a year.  Also this is happening at two different locations with two different wifi connections.

Hi @RHW - Welcome to community.

Can you tell me a little more about the error message you're receiving, what does is exactly say? Can you please share a picture of the error that you're getting.

Hello,  Getting that server error/ wrong password msg , but I can log in successfully on my pc, I have tried everything this community recommends except connecting directly to Ethernet, will I have to be connected to the ethernet every time I want to listen through roku? Or will wifi pick up after the initial code activates? Long time premiums customer, 12 years! and Ive never had to reactivate except maybe when I got a new tv/roku device, Any help appreciated, because I'm about to cancel and ask for a full refund on my yearly subscription

Hi @kauaigirl! Thanks for posting and sorry to hear you're having trouble logging into Pandora on your Roku.

I've merged your post with a similar thread Roku - Log in error. I've passed your info along to our engineering team to further investigating.

Could you tell me more about your Roku device?

  • What is the model?
  • What is the serial number? (Settings > System > About)
  • What Roku software version is your device using? (Settings > System > About)
  • What Pandora channel version are you on? (Highlight the Pandora channel icon and select the * key.)

Thanks!

I am having the same issue

Pandora just suddenly stopped working on my Roku with the same error - "unable to automatically sign in. Roku failed to provide the required account information. Please login using email and password."

Roku Model 3941X, Express 4K+

I did EVERYTHING multiple times.

Updated software (didn't need it)

Rebooted multiple times.

Removed channel, reinstalled, multiple times.

Tried to "reactivate" and the error I get is on the Pandora website -

Server Error

We're sorry, there has been an unexpected error with our server.

Please try again, or visit the Pandora home page.

So. Pissed.

I'm having the same problem.  It started two days ago.

Model 4640X

S/W version 11.0.0 build 4193.29

Pandora 5.5 Build 4

I'm not giving you my serial number.

I have rebooted the Roku device multiple times.

I rebooted my router.

I deleted the Pandora app on my Roku device and reinstalled.

I unplugged the Roku device.

It keeps asking me for login information.

I tried the code and email, neither works - roku gives me a server error.

August 18, 2022 and I am now having the exact same issue. Read the thread and tried all the suggested steps, nothing works.

Any proper resolution to the issue?

Roku - Does Not Remember Pandora Login Information as of 8-21-22

I am using a Roku stick powered by TV USB.  So when the TV goes off the Roku is powered down.  I have used this setup for several months without an issue.  A day or two ago I, again, got the dreaded "Does Not Remember....."  So I logged into Pandora and entered a code provided by my Roku device and it logged in.  So, today, again it happens.  I tried entering the code provided by Roku and wound up with a notice of the dreaded " server error, please try again later".  I really don't want to try again later.  I just want the service I am paying for.  Is this a Pandora problem or a Roku problem?  Any tips?  Do I need to keep the Roku stick powered up 24/7?

@Azor I moved your post over to this existing thread: Roku - Log in error

To clarify, is this only an issue on your Roku device?

Are you able to sign in using the same email and password on your computer or mobile devices?

Let me know.

In the meantime, it may help to run through a few standard network troubleshooting steps:

If this does not resolve the issue, please send me a screenshot of the error message you're seeing.

Thanks for your reply and your interest.  The short answer is Yes.  I can access Pandora on my PC, Samsung smart TV, an older iPad, and Apple iPhone 7+.

My Roku streaming stick model 3810RW is running Pandora 5.5 Build 4.  The stick is running version 11.0.0 Build 4193 which is up to date.  The stick is WIFI only.

I just tried entering a code from the Roku stick onto the Pandora site and got the dreaded error message.  I tried the laborious process of entering my email and pw.  That failed also.

Hi @jochumr! Thanks for posting!

Just to confirm, you're having trouble logging into Pandora on your Roku?

If you're able to log into Pandora on your mobile device let's try activating the Roku by using these steps that bypass the requirement to enter an email and password on Roku.

  • first, launch the Pandora application on Roku.
  • Select Log In.
  • An activation page will appear with a code - leave this code up on the device screen as you continue.
  • From your mobile device, open the Pandora app and go to Settings, then tap Device Activation and enter the code displayed on the TV.

Let me know how it goes.
