They need to do this. For me, a thumbs down or a thumbs up, doesn't always mean I liked or disliked a song, sometimes it means it's fit or not fit for the station. The algorithm is disconnected with the listener's goals, the rating is too one dimensional. Songs might also benefit from user proposed tags, and stations should have tags associated with the songs you're trying to listen to, for that particular station. I enjoy many genres, 40s - 2000s, pop, alternative, indie, folk, jazz, metal, movie scores, classical, etc, but I don't like when they mix, when I'm in a certain mood for that particular day, however sometimes the artist may experiment in another genre, it doesn't mean I wan't their entire discography and genre in that particular station, despite liking their music. Right now, I'm trying to make a station that is specifically slow, sad, rainy weather diner/bar type jazz. So, I'm thumbing down many jazz songs that are upbeat despite liking them, of course the algorithm doesn't know why. Now, there's a folk singer and a pop singer who's respectively done jazz songs I like, so I add their particular song. Unfortunately, it adds the genres the artists are associated with, do you see the problem? Now, my thumbs down rate is going to shoot way up, thumbing down every folk and pop song on a jazz station. There are times when I like the out of genre song, so I would bookmark it to add to another station later, and thumb it down for that station, BUT, now there is no BOOKMARK FEATURE!... Now, how I'd implement the feature. Add a "why" or "reason" for the "thumb up," "thumb down," and "add variety" features for the song in question. Add ability to give tags to a song, ie happy, sad, angry, upbeat, slow, genre, etc.The listener can choose a why/reason from the already prescribed tags by Pandora or a user's approved tag. Return bookmarks.

I used bookmarks to favorite songs to not feed algorithm. For instance, I create a station specifically for Jazz, a pop song appears, but I thumbs it down despite liking it, so I bookmark it. Sooo, now what do I do in this instance?
