His father, a flooring installer for Carpetland, took Dakota with him on jobs, introducing him to all walks of life across Northern Kentucky. Music was a constant presence in his upbringing. His father would play the harmonica and sing him to sleep with "Curtis Lowe" and Marine Corps cadences from his time in the Second Force Recon. Today, Dakota is channeling that rich, local upbringing and a series of heavy personal trials into a career as an independent music artist under the persona KotaDiarys.   The Rhythm of the Road and a Rough Start The hum of the road was the first instrument Dakota ever truly knew. Sitting in the passenger seat of his dad’s work truck, the landscape of Northern Kentucky blurred past the window—rolling hills, quiet small towns, and bustling job sites. His father was a flooring installer, a man who worked with his hands, and every town they visited meant meeting a new group of people. Dakota didn't just watch the world pass by; he listened. He absorbed the accents, the complaints, the laughter, and the resilience of the people his father did business with. This diverse mix of encounters became the foundation for his perspective on life. Yet underneath the music and the travel, Dakota navigated a rough, turbulent childhood in Grant County long before his own musical ambitions ever fully took hold.   A House Built on Harmony When the tools were put away for the weekend, the Carter family home transformed into a sanctuary of sound. Dakota’s uncles were deeply passionate about music. He spent hours watching his Uncle Hubert piece together tracks in a makeshift home studio, while Uncle Dwight provided the vocals. The most defining sounds of his childhood, however, were much more intimate. Every night, his father would sit by his bed. The air would fill with the reedy, soulful wail of a harmonica, followed by his father singing the classic blues ballad "Curtis Lowe." Mixed into those nightly lullabies were the sharp, disciplined cadences his father carried home from his days in the Marines. It was an unusual mix of military precision and deep-South blues, embedding itself permanently into Dakota's memory.   Love, Survival, and Falling Apart The turning point came when Dakota met Cara in Richwood. Seeking a fresh start, they moved out to Murray, Kentucky, where they had to fight just to survive. In the beginning, they lived completely exposed to the elements in a tent. Dakota pushed himself to the limit, working two grueling jobs simultaneously just to earn enough to finally land them a trailer. But even with a hard-won roof over his head, the stability did not last. Dakota's life began falling apart as he relapsed, turning back to drinking and drugs. The addiction created a deep, painful rift between him and Cara. To protect his young daughter from the darkness of his reality, Dakota kept his struggles entirely hidden, suffering through his addiction in absolute silence. The emotional toll doubled when his heart was shattered upon discovering that Cara had cheated on him.   The Squeeze of the Law and Family Tragedy Just as personal relationships crumbled, the outside world closed in. Dakota borrowed a friend's car to get around, unaware of what was hidden inside. The police pulled the vehicle over, and the law squeezed hardcore—busting Dakota for drug paraphernalia that didn't even belong to him. With the arrest came the terrifying threat of the state taking his daughter away, adding toxic fuel to an already raging fire. During this exact era of chaos, tragedy struck the family in the most violent way possible. Dakota’s father was shot in the head, barely surviving the horrific incident. The trauma of his father's near-fatal shooting collided heavily with Dakota's legal battles, as he faced the weight of a system punishing him for a vehicle and contraband that weren't his.   Writing the Next Verse Those early days on the road, nights of family blues, and the severe trials of the present have ultimately forged a fierce resolve. Now facing incarceration, Dakota refuses to let his vision die behind bars. He plans to write music the entire time he is incarcerated, use the time to earn his GED, and emerge from the system stronger than he entered. He found Levi Bloom on TikTok, and was invited to rap on stage at a show, which was a turning point for him. He returned to Florence, Kentucky, and started to build his career, discovering a real talent within him.Just as he was finding his sound, he was caught up in a traffic case while driving a friend's car when police found **** ************ that wasn't his. He received a three-year sentence for **** possession. Yet, through all of this, he's stayed humble, and is now determined to pour every ounce of energy into making it in the music industry. I was born in Edgewood Kentucky raised in Grant county Kentucky most of my life but was really all around Northern Kentucky every other day I was going somewhere else because my father was a flooring installer for carpetland and buddies America and I really got to know a lot of people around Northern Kentucky area all sorts of different types of people and I think that's where I picked up a lot of my sound but my uncle is all make music my uncle Hubert van carter had a studio in his house Uncle Dwight would sing and my father would play harmonica and my dad would sing Curtis Lowe to me every night before I went to sleep and it's in cadences from when he was in second Force recon in the Marines I think that's where some of my rhythm came from but I really have a passion for music and plan on by 2028 becoming one of the biggest musical artist in Kentucky and then within two or three more years becoming a global icon in the music industry some of my biggest influencers and inspirations is the Levi bloom or just out of Kentucky that I met personally and went to a couple of his shows really showed me a lot of compassion knowing the situation that I had had with my daughter's mother cuz he had went to a similar situation and honest Ave is one of my biggest influences and Eminem for sure Nelly my sister used to always listen to Nelly when I was growing up lil white and Three 6 Mafia is one of my biggest influences on music but really my life has been the most influential thing on my music growing up I seen a lot of fights violence death whether it was from drug overdoses or fights my sister's boyfriend growing up ended up dying he got in a fight and got kicked in the head with boots on and passed away from that my cousin that was the same age as me passed away from a brain aneurysm that was caused from heroin my dad got shot in the head and I was 18 I was trying to break him in a guy up from fighting that tried date raping my mom and the dude shot my dad in the head and my dad survived my dad's actually going through a hard time right now he's really sick in the hospital he's been going to the VA hospital in Cincinnati just chop part of his foot off so that's been hard on my heart and then my brother went to a heroin addiction when we were in middle school going into high School and ended up oding on Christmas my senior year in 2014 but survived luckily they about had to do a trac on him to open up his air passage because he couldn't get a tube down his throat so that was pretty rough on me and my uncle Dwight the one that used to sing all the time and taught me how to roll cigarettes and weed passed away from COPD and then I was drinking and driving one night and going to pick my family up from work and swerved because I had a girl in the car that was drunk with me and she climbed out the window and the vehicle going down the neighborhood that I wasn't familiar with and I was kind of lost and I swerved and almost hit a cop and then got pulled over and I was driving a friend's vehicle they searched the vehicle cuz they asked me if they could and I said yeah I never thought about anything being in the vehicle but they ended up finding drug paraphernalia in the vehicle that was not mine but because I was driving a vehicle I was charged with it and since the three years which I'm still dealing with now but I'm not a bad person I have the biggest heart in the world and I'm very compassionate romantic and tune with my self I'm very humble nothing that is materialistic means anything to me only my friend's family and relationships and time that I have on this planet money doesn't mean anything to me other than it's what I need to help people around me and help my family so it's like a tool if I ever meet all my goals I'm going to give back to the less fortunate and I'm going to  invest money so that my family never has to worry about money again I love nature I collect Indian artifacts and love adventures and nature I thought about going on naked and afraid but I didn't want to die and not be able to talk to the world so I decided to just go with my music.  ...
