The latest update to the Pandora Android app seems to have made the battery drain when not using the app worse. It is now causing my phone to overheat. Is there any bug report, or possible fix?
mod edit: changed title for clarity
Pixel 5A running Android 12
Google Fi
Pandora version 2201.1
Usually starting and closing the service on mobile data, but per the battery details it stays on while on wifi.
It seems to be doing the same thing with Tune-In Radio. Both Pandora and Tune In keep using the battery after the app is closed. Both require a Force Stop to stop the drain.
Thanks for sharing those details, @BugSlayer.
I've passed this along to our engineering team on your behalf. 🎧
I have not had this problem on my old Moto X4 running Android 9.
I'll also chime in and say I'm seeing similar issues to @BugSlayer with my Pixel 5. After launching, the Pandora app is responsible for 25% of my battery use and continues to drain the battery while running in the background. It doesn't appear that simply quitting the app solves the issue. The only way to stop it from draining the phone dry is to force-stop the app or restart my phone.
I'm on AT&T running Pandora version 2203.1 on Android 12.
I've diagnosed it further. When Pandora is launched automatically by the Bluetooth connection with my car stereo, It does not open an app card for Pandora, so there is no way to close Pandora when I exit my car by swiping away the open app card. Closing the playback controls does not close the app. Nor does turning off Bluetooth (which really should be the trigger). Pandora really needs to fix this.
Sorry to hear that this is still happening. Thank you both for those details, @favoritenephew @BugSlayer.
I have shared this with our engineering team for you. 🎧
Having the same issue. Pandora drains my battery after using Android auto. My solutions was to uninstall the app.
