School-Appropriate Pump-Up Station for Middle / High School Athletics

I’m looking for some help building a high-energy, school-appropriate Pandora station for middle school athletic events.

The goal is a “Jock Jams” type atmosphere: upbeat, fun, energetic, recognizable songs that get kids and families pumped up before games without drifting into explicit lyrics, sexual content, or anything that feels questionable for a school setting.

Think songs in the neighborhood of Thunderstruck, Jump, Eye of the Tiger, Seven Nation Army, Believer, Centuries, Can’t Stop the Feeling, and classic arena-style pump-up music.

I’d love suggestions on the best Pandora station or seed songs/artists to start with so I can train the station in that direction.

Basically: high energy, wholesome, family-friendly, and appropriate for a middle school gym or football game.

Thanks for any ideas!

I'll give it a shot.
It's a drag to expect "clean" songs and then have a "**ahem**" or F bomb get
dropped and then it's parent complaint central.

Thanks

Yeah. I try the best I can to avoid songs with language. I hope you find the right station.

Hi @SchoolAD!

Welcome to Pandora Community!

Pandora has a wide variety of family-friendly stations that may work.

You can also browse genre stations here from a web page.

One additional thing to keep in mind when setting up a station for a family-friendly environment is Pandora’s Explicit Content Filter. When enabled, the filter limits playback to music that could generally be played on daytime broadcast radio.

However, the filter is designed primarily to filter explicit language, not the overall subject matter of a song. Songs containing mature themes or situations may still play even when the filter is enabled.

You may also notice a couple of things while listening:

  • If an edited or “clean” version of a song is available, Pandora may play that version while still displaying the artwork from the original album. This means the album artwork may show an Explicit/Parental Advisory label even though you’re hearing the edited version.

  • Some radio edits can be very brief. In certain cases, you may still hear the beginning or end of a filtered word, which can sometimes sound similar to the original explicit language.

I’d recommend using the Explicit Content Filter along with carefully choosing your station and giving the station feedback as you listen.

It’s also a good idea to preview the station beforehand, since the filter alone can’t guarantee that every song or theme will be appropriate for your particular setting.

Thanks for being part of community!
