Long before she was dubbed "The Goddess Of Pop," Cher cut her teeth as a back up singer for Phil Spector. Her unique contralto voice found its way on The Righteous Brothers' "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" and The Ronettes' "Be My Baby." Before she abbreviated her name from Cherilyn Sarkisian to Cher, she went under a couple different monikers. Spector recorded her first single, "Ringo, I Love You" under the name Bonnie Jo Mason. She and Sonny Bono also went by "Caeser & Cleo" before going with "Sonny & Cher," the brand that landed them multiple hits and their own television show. Following the dissolve of her partnership with Bono, Cher went solo and also embarked upon an acting career (she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the film Moonstruck). And though her acting nearly eclipsed her music, Cher continues to create contagiously catchy pop. Her 1998 hit "Believe" is regarded as the first hit to explore the possibilities of Auto-Tune.
