Explicit Content filter is not working

Catalinam

Hello! I am experiencing the same issues. In my settings, I do not allow explicit content, yet it still plays. Definitely not my favorite since my 10 year old listens from my account.

Clearly this is affecting everyone and Pandora needs to fix it ASAP. And let everyone know our kids are being exposed. Explicit content has always been off in my account.

Most likely we'll just cancel and use Apple Music 100%.

@vandytex After taking a look at your account, it looks like you may have initiated a Premium Session when you attempted to play that track on demand.

I see both the Hamilton (Original Broadway Cast Recording) (Explicit) album, and a Ham Pop playlist are in your Recently played list:

Screen Shot 2021-06-01 at 10.14.32 AM.png

The explicit filter will only apply to songs that play on your stations; it doesn't apply to playlists you create, or those created for you by Pandora. Also, It doesn't apply to podcasts.

When you're curating playlists or searching for podcasts, you can identify explicit tracks by a red "E" label. To keep explicit songs or podcasts from your collection, avoid adding those with that label.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to delete songs from playlists created by Pandora. However, you could copy those playlists into a new playlist, and then remove any explicit tracks.

To do that, open the playlist you'd like to edit, tap More (represented by three dots) then select Add to Playlist. From there you can create a new playlist or add it to an existing one. Finally, open your new playlist and select Edit.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

In order to avoid hearing explicit content moving forward, make sure you are streaming your regular radio stations, rather than searching for specific tracks or albums.

Here is the link to your Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton Radio station.

Hope this helps!

Yeah, that's not complicated at all 😉 Seriously, the filter should block all explicit content. There should not be any loopholes. That's how it works on every other streaming service.

I was trying to play music for my 8th graders so I turned off the explicit content setting and the Top Hits Radio station still played songs with swear words in it. It did filter some of the songs.

Playing Pandora in a school setting:

As a general rule, any time you play music in a public place, you must have the proper licenses and pay the required royalties. This license requirement helps fairly compensate artists, authors, composers, publishers and other rightholders. Pandora is only authorized to grant you a license to use the Pandora service for personal non-commercial purposes, as stated in our terms of use.

However, under the U.S. Copyright Act, the performance or display of a work by instructors or pupils in the course of face-to-face teaching activities of a nonprofit educational institution may, in certain, limited circumstances, be exempt from certain license requirements. You should consult the venue in which you are speaking, the institution which is conducting or sponsoring the conference or workshop, or your own attorney for advice on whether your use of the Pandora service might qualify under this or some other exception to the licensing requirements of the U.S. Copyright Act.

Use of Pandora in a commercial setting is also available via hardware sold by Mood Media. To learn more about this or to sign up, please visit their website.

Opening Act

Was listening to the song “Lost Cause” by Billie Eilish on the Today’s Hits Radio station. It played the explicit version instead of the clean version that was supposed to be played. I have the explicit filter turned on.

Pandora Update 06/14/21:

Hi everyone! 👋🏽

Something to keep in mind is that the explicit filter removes explicit language but not content on your stations. This means that you still may encounter adult themes and situations.

It can also be confusing because we will swap the "clean" audio for the explicit version when the filter is turned on, but it will still show the album art of the original album (which may show as "explicit"). So you will see the artwork with the parental advisory label, but you're hearing the edited version of the song. Also, some radio edits are very brief, so you may end up hearing the first and last part of a word which can often sound explicit.

Lastly, the explicit filter will only apply to your stations; it doesn't apply to podcasts or any on-demand content. You can identify podcasts or songs with explicit language by a red "E" label in the episode/song title.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

If that isn't what's happening, can you give me a little more feedback so we can take a look into this?

The next time this happens, please thumb down the explicit track(s), and make sure to grab a screenshot(s) of the now playing screen.

Once that is done, can you please follow up with the requested info below?

  • The device you are using to stream Pandora:

Just confirming this is explicit language (rather than album art) and it’s the full word rather than a radio edit (radio edits are fine). I’m only listening via stations.

I just wanted to confirm giving thumbs down won’t mean the clean version of that song also would not be played on this station?

  • The device you are using to stream Pandora: iphone
  • The name of the station where this occurred: Fashion Week
  • Were you listening using a Pandora Mode like Crowd Faves, Discovery or Deep Cuts?: No mode

Thank you!

@g05471 No - thumbing down the explicit version will not prevent the clean version from playing on your station.

The next time this happens, please thumb down the explicit track(s), and make sure to grab a screenshot(s) of the now playing screen.

You can then follow up with the remaining information:

  • The name(s) of the artist(s):
  • The title(s) of the explicit track(s):
  • Confirmation that you were able to give the explicit track(s) a Thumbs down:
  • A screenshot of the explicit track that plays on your station:

Thanks again for working with me on this.

I am having this issue as well. It seems to be specific songs that have this issue, almost like they are incorrectly labeled as not being explicit in your database.

I thumbs down these songs so they don't play again, but honestly, I hate that as a solution because I actually really like these songs and their style. I don't want downvoting them to affect the algorithm for my channels.

Here's the info you requested

  • The device you are using to stream Pandora: Web (Chrome browser on Windows)
  • The name of the station where this occurred: Existentialism On Prom Night Radio
  • The name(s) of the artist(s): Something Corporate, Sarah McLachlan
  • The title(s) of the explicit track(s): Konstantine, Building a Mystery
  • Confirmation that you were able to give the explicit track(s) a Thumbs down: Yes
  • Were you listening using a Pandora Mode like Crowd Faves, Discovery or Deep Cuts?: No
  • A screenshot of the explicit track that plays on your station:
