I've had Pandora since forever (first subscribed in 2006!), and I have a station that is my go-to - basically everything I like: 80+ seed songs and artists, nearly 1000 thumbs-up, a few hundred thumbs-down.
I get frustrated sometimes because it historically doesn't go that deep into any artist - like the same 5-8 songs by an artist keep getting replayed. Sure you can move to "deep cuts" or other modes to mix it up (and I do), but in "My Station" mode it just isn't that deep.
All of a sudden this week, it has completely changed. In normal "My Station" mode, I'm getting a lot more deep cuts or songs I haven't heard in years (or ever) mixed in with some of the usual go-to's. It is, in a word, terrific!
My question - has the algorithm changed recently to mix things up a bit more?
I haven't changed anything on my own recently, no rash of new thumbs on Deep Cuts mode, nothing like that. I have been using "I'm tired of this song" here and there but not enough to dramatically change entire vibe of the station.
What has changed? This is fantastic!
Well, so much for the change in how the station was playing music. I had this great 3-4 days where the station was playing a bunch of different stuff. Now we're back to the old "same 5-8 songs by an artist". Sigh, I was really enjoying whatever it was doing, and now we're back to the same old same old...
Any ideas Pandora Community?
@cb1234 Thanks for the update — I’m really glad to hear you were enjoying the added variety at first, and I totally understand how repetition can start to take away from that experience over time.
If you haven’t had a chance yet, I’d recommend checking out this community post with some helpful station tips: Tips for better stations
In particular, the “Station repetition” section walks through a few things you can try that often help reduce repeats and refresh how a station plays. Running through those suggestions can make a noticeable difference, especially if a station has been around for a while.
Hopefully that helps bring back some of the variety you were enjoying — and thanks again for being part of the community and sharing your experience!
