I've had Pandora for a long time and the algorithm on my account is totally busted. Stations play the same few songs over and over and even play them on totally different stations that they should not be on. I used to use Pandora to hear new music I havent heard before but that's not happening anymore, it's the same stuff over and over and I can't escape those songs even when going to another station.
How do I start fresh?
Moderator Edit: Edited title for clarity
I am having exactly the same experience. I have listened to Pandora since it was the music genome project (beta). It has exposed me to literally dozens of new artists.....music that I never would have heard otherwise. Now, Pandora seems to be the same as YouTube - it only offers me music that I have thumbs up'd. Over and over. The original Pandora algorithm that offered me new music based on the characteristics of songs I have previously liked seems to no longer exist. Did Google buy Pandora?
I cannot find ANY way at all to ADD songs or artists.....and the only way i can experience new music is to use the explore option....which in no way seems to offer ANY music that i like at all - i skip 9/10 songs that are offered. Boo.
There is sooo much music out now, it is impossible to sift through it all. I am grieving the loss of the original Pandora algorithm.
No add variety button exists
@Pepper I moved your post over to this existing thread: Station Repetition
Check out the accepted solution if your station is getting too repetitive.
You should be able to add additional songs or artists to your station as variety as long as it isn't one of our curated genre stations.
Hope this helps!
Hi Pandora, I've been a non-paying listener for many years on my "Fats Domino Radio" and "SPARX Radio" and I love what you're doing. I have the same questions that a lot of the others have regarding repetition, but I can't complain. For example, I thumbs upped "Raunchy" by Billy Vaughn several years ago, and it plays often - OK. That version was in Billboard's Top 10 at the same time as 2 other versions, Bill Justis's and Ernie Freeman's, but you never play those for me. Is it because 1 version is enough, or you don't have those other 2?
Not helpful to the point that I am so frustrated with not having a live person to speak with and am considering cancelling my subscription, and I have been a subscriber for about 20 years!
Hi @Jeffo1 , sorry for the trouble!
We totally understand your furstration.
I have escalated this to our support team so they can take a look at your account directly.
They will follow up with you, please look out for their email.
funny how when having this problem i find this thread and this adam guy is just copying and pasting his same response with two links THAT DONT WORK!!!!!! they just keep taking me to this same page!
It's pretty plain to me that with the repeated "form" responses from Pandora, they like many companies feel that they really don't care what long time customers need or want.
Yes, never thumb up songs anywhere on Pandora. It makes the terrible lack of variety even worse. I've spent hundreds of hours over years trying to get Pandora to play the widest variety possible but the system and the algorithms work against it. I've found no way to overcome it. I've tried shuffling hundreds of stations and tried having hundreds of artists on stations. Ideally, I would like a service to randomly play me everything ever, I will curate it with thumb ups and thumb downs. Everything Pandora does different from random is worse than random. Skipping songs helps but it takes incessant skipping which, of course, is annoying.
In my history with Pandora on this subject, I posted a thread which contained specific information about why this 'accepted solution' is inaccurate and does not help. In fact, the moderators marked their own solution as accepted, not a single user has ever accepted this solution. This makes the problem seem as if it has been solved when it most assuredly has not been even acknowledged, must less solved.
My post was deleted/archived and referred to this 'accepted solution' which is not one.
At some point I was referred to the "ideas" part of the site. Years later (a couple months ago), my suggestion/request was archived without ever seeing any kind of response from the company at all.
Extra variety is a service I'm willing to pay for, but they aren't interested in my money, apparently.
This entire process seems like the company has taken every possible measure to ensure that it never has to listen to a customer.
