music preferences changed?

I don't know what Pandora has changed in its algorithms, but it's horrible. The playlists that I have saved and artist radio stations that I favored are now full of absolute garbage that is nothing like anything that used to be. If there are any Pandora employees who read this, please respond and help me understand. If nothing changes soon, I'll cancel my subscription. I don't know how you mess up something so simple, but congratulations, you succeeded.

@TheologianPlays Nice to see you around the community.

I can definitely understand why this would be frustrating, especially if stations you've enjoyed for a long time suddenly seem very different from what you expect.

We haven't made any changes intended to fundamentally alter your music preferences, but we'd like to take a closer look at what you're hearing. We have an existing post that explains some of the reasons why an occasional out-of-place track may appear on a station and provides some troubleshooting steps: Hearing out of place tracks on station

After reviewing that information, if you're still noticing issues, could you provide a few specific examples? In particular, it would be helpful to know:

  • The name of the station you were listening to
  • The date/time the out of place track(s) played
  • The name(s) of the out of place artist(s) on the station.
  • The title(s) of the out of place track(s) that played.
  • A screenshot of the out of place track playing on the now playing screen.
  • Were you able to give the out of place track(s) a Thumbs down?
  • Were you listening using a Pandora Mode like Crowd Faves, Discovery or Deep Cuts?

The more examples you can share, the easier it will be for us to investigate and determine whether there's an issue that needs further review.

We appreciate you taking the time to report this, and we'll be happy to continue looking into it with you.

I am sorry, but I shouldn't be the one who has to actively trace which station I listen to, which tracks are being played, the titles... Am I not the paying customer? I KNOW that something has changed, regardless of your claim that nothing has changed. One day there are no issues; the following day I am down-thumbing 4/5 songs because they are nothing that I want. And it's not with one station but multiple ones.

@TheologianPlays I completely understand where you're coming from, and I can appreciate why this would be frustrating as a paying subscriber.

If stations you've listened to for a long time suddenly seem to be playing music that doesn't fit your tastes, it makes sense that your experience would feel noticeably different. I also understand your point that you shouldn't have to spend your time documenting every song that plays just to enjoy the service.

That said, from our side, we're unable to investigate what may be happening on a specific station without a few concrete examples. While we don't doubt that your listening experience has changed, we need to be able to identify the exact tracks and stations involved so we can review what was recommended and determine whether something unexpected is occurring.

If you're willing to help us take a closer look, please provide any examples you can gather, including:

  • The name of the station you were listening to
  • The date and approximate time the out-of-place track played
  • The artist name(s) of the out-of-place track(s)
  • The title(s) of the out-of-place track(s)
  • A screenshot of the Now Playing screen showing the track, if possible
  • Whether you were able to give the track a Thumbs Down
  • Whether you were listening in a Pandora Mode such as Crowd Faves, Discovery, or Deep Cuts

Even one or two examples can be helpful. Without that information, unfortunately, we don't have a way to review the recommendations that were served to your account or determine what may have contributed to the experience you're describing.

If you're able to provide those details, we'll be happy to continue investigating with you.
