Good Friday morning 🌄. I will be adding eight music facts for today's post. 1). On this day in 1735, the first opera was performed in America "Flora" that performance took place in Charleston South Carolina. 2). On this day in 1902 the opera "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" premiered in Monte Carlo. 3). On this day in 1903 African American Poet Paul Laurence Dunbar wrote the musical lyrics for the very first African American musical "In Dahomey" the musical was performed on Broadway at the New York Theater. Dunbar was also school friends with Orville and Wilbur Wright, (the famous Wright brothers.) The printing company the Wright brothers owned printed the first African American weekly newspaper in Dayton Ohio, which Dunbar edited. Paul Laurence Dunbar died in 1906 at the age of 33 from tuberculosis. 4). February 18th, 1954 Actor, Singer, John Travolta was born, Olivia Newton-John was also born on this day but in the year 1952. Travolta along with actress, and singer Olivia Newton-John share the #1 song in 1978 "You're The One That I Want". In the U.K it remained #1 for 9 weeks. It is the 6th highest-selling single of all time in the U.K. (How unique wouldn't you agree?) 5). On February 18th, 1965 Dr. Dre was born. In 1996 Dr. Dre had the #1 US & #6 in the U.K single "California". Dre also hosts "Yo" MTV Raps. 6). On this day in 1966 Beach Boy member Brian Wilson records the future classic song "Good Vibrations". The song also became the band's third #1 hit song. Wilson further states that the song was inspired by what he remembered his mom had told him as a child, she told him that dogs react to either good or bad vibrations they pick up from people. If it is bad vibrations they will bark. From that became the birth of a classic hit. 7). On this day in 1989 Country great Clint Black earns Country Billboard Song of the year honors with his hit song "A Better Man". 8). On this day in 1998 Andrea Bocelli makes his operatic debut as Rodolfo in "La boeme" at the Teatro Comunale in Cagliari.
