I’m late to this thread, but am exceedingly disappointed in the elimination of the Music Genome Engine and/or previous music suggestion algorithm changes that have been made. I went on an audiobook binge for many months and only listened to my Pandora stations sporadically for a long while. Over the past month, I’ve been listening to several of my carefully groomed and long-curated stations with frustration. Seeking answers to why my specifically themed stations now play random songs from totally different genres or from different decade time slices, I found this thread.
While I’m happy to have confirmed my suspicions about a significant and apparent algorithm change, I’m now more frustrated that the Pandora team is not addressing the problem. It is really irritating, for example, to have some 80’s or 90’s punk or indie rock band show up in my Jukebox Joint Blues station. As others note here, I have continued to subscribe to Pandora for a decade now because of the value I placed on the Music Genome Engine. IMO, it worked far better than the algorithms used by other music streaming services. I, too, would pay more to have the previous algorithm restored.
It also seems that you can no longer reopen a station and scroll back to review (to thumb up or thumb down) or replay a favorite song from a previous day’s listening session. Now when I re-open the same station the next morning that history is gone.
As it stands Pandora has essentially ruined my stations. As a long-time customer, I don’t appreciate the “improvement” and am really considering cancelling my subscription. Pandora, please help us out!
