The problem happened again today about 5:30pm. It was a Lexus commercial. The symptom was a bit different this time. This time the screensaver was on, the Lexus ad played then silence. So I clicked the remove and saw the Are You Still Listening window. So I clicked yes. Then instead of replaying the same ad over and over, it played nothing. I then clicked the Play arrow and instead of playing the ad, it showed the Are You Still Listening window again. Clicked Yes and back to nothing playing. Click the Play arrow and Are You Still Listening pops up again. Went through that loop a couple of times. Exited the Pandora app, started the app again and was back in the same state, Play-Are You Still Listening-Yes-Play. No music. Had to turn TV off and back on to get out of it. ... View more

I uninstalled and reinstalled the Pandora app as you suggested. That was a couple weeks ago. The problem with the end loop between an ad and the "Are you still listening?" message just occurred again. I'd hear the ad while the screensaver was running, ad would stop, no music, click the remote to see "Are you still listening?", click the window and then get to listen the same ad again and repeat. Curiously it was another Well Fargo ad. Only way out of this endless loop of ads and "Are you still listening?" messages is to power the TV off and then on again. Adam, The problem just occurred again. Got to listen to the ad about Lucy from Wells Fargo while the TV screensaver was up. When the ad finished, no music so I clicked the remote and got the Are You Still listening popup. Click it yet and then the Lucy from Wells Fargo ad was ready to plan again. My experience with this LG WebOS based TV is when new versions of an app are available the TV pops up a window asking me if I want to upgrade it. I don't see any option to remove the Pandora app on this LG WebOS based TV. All you can do is move the icons around. In order to try to avoid having this problem happening I have often waited until the TV screen saver pops up while I am listening to Pandora and then used the remote to fiddle with the app, like scroll through the song history. The point of this was to let the app know that somebody is still there listening. I figured if the app knows somebody is using the app's user interface then obviously somebody is listening so it shouldn't have any need to pop up the Are You Still Listening window. But this doesn't work. The app seems to pop up that window randomly regardless of what I do in the user interface. If the whole point of this feature is to detect when the user is no longer listening so Pandora doesn't have to pay royalties, why does it pop up this annoying window when the user is obviously still there using the interface? For those of you who may still be experiencing this problem because Roku refuses to provide you with the 12.5 software update needed to fix it, I have found what seems to be a work around. I find that if while listening to Pandora on my Roku, I hit the Home button on the Roku remote and then click into Pandora again after some period of time then the problem doesn't seem to occur. What exactly that "period of time" should be is unclear, but about every 1/2 hour seems to be working for me. Not an ideal workaround, one has to remember to do this while listening, but the alternative is you get locked out of your channels for days while Pandora's servers decide to let you listen to them again. Nothing you can do on your end corrects the problem. It's possible that the magic time period could be longer, but that's a matter of experimentation. ... View more

My Roku stubbornly refuses to upgrade past Roku software version 12.0.0, despite the fact that my Roku hardware is apparently still supported. From what I've read since yesterday, this is a Roku policy. They roll out software updates slowly and there's no telling when you are going to get the latest. According to this Roku software release link: https://support.roku.com/article/228844467#section-3 my model 4230X is among those getting the upgrade. But I guess being on that list doesn't mean your going to get the upgrade on your Roku. At least not today. So if current Pandora is for some reason dependent on some Roku software feature added since 12.0.0, then I'm just out of luck until Roku decides to upgrade my Roku. Too bad, I've liked Pandora. I guess I won't be buying another Roku when this one drops out of support. Seems odd though. Pandora used to work fine on older Roku code than what I've got now. Netflix still works fine. Amazon video still works fine. Perhaps Pandora engineering would want to look into what they added to Pandora that doesn't work with Roku version 12.0.0 but does work with 12.5. It might not be as diabolical as I am making it out to be. It could be just flaky ad sources. I've see that with other sites. They make you watch some ad before you get to see the content you want but then the ad itself is coming from some other site and that site won't serve the ad up, so the whole thing just hangs. They really should cache their ads locally so that can't happen or at the least make their site handle the error better, if that's what's going on. ... View more

The word "obscure" in your response would seem to answer my question in the affirmative. 8^) Seems my theory might be on track. Hard to say with just two data points. I hope I'm wrong, that it's just some technical glitch that they haven't worked out yet, but this wouldn't be out of character for internet companies in general. They are giving the service away after all. I suppose they can manage it the way they want at least for non-paying users like me. Paying customers would be a different story. Profilergirl, I listen to mostly old boomer, progressive rock from the 70s and 80s. Not exactly "top of the charts" in 2023. I am guessing my favorite stations don't get much play and thus may not have many advertisers. In the past that seems to have meant that my stations didn't get that many commercial breaks, which was fine with me. But I am wondering if Pandora has had a change in policy. Maybe now if there's no commercial lined up on the station, instead of playing the station anyway they give you the blank blue screen of death in the hope that you switch to a different station that does have commercials lined up. They don't make any money off of no pays if those listeners never hear any commercials. This would explain the behavior, some stations work, some don't, and which one's do or don't keeps changing with the behavior of advertisers. I am having the same problem. I've been listening to Pandora via Roku for a few years now and now for the last couple of weeks I'll be playing one of my favorite stations and it will stop and bump be back to the Roku menu. Then I click on Pandora again but now when I go to My Stations and select one of my favorites it shows a blue screen with the name of the station but where the album cover is supposed to be its just blank blue. No music. I've deleted the Pandora app and reinstalled. Problem still occurs. I've tried updating the Pandora app. It says its up to date at version 6.5 and 'Pandora' is up to date. I've tried upgrading the Roku software. It's at software version 12.0.0 build 4184. I click Check Now and it says "All software is up to date". The About button says I have a Roku Player 4230X. I've restarted the Roku from the system menu several time. Funny thing is, this has been happening off and on for a few weeks and sometimes when I come back to it, my stations will work fine again, until I listen to them for a while. ... View more
