FWIW I switched to Spotify about six months ago. The EQ feature in their app works perfectly. Spotify's curation isn't quite as good, but I'm happy to trade that for the ability to EQ the sound. Spotify also allows crossfading on their apps. It was a pretty easy switch and inexpensive if you take advantage of their periodic new listener discounts. If Pandora were to add an EQ feature to their smart phone app I'd switch back. Just sayin'.
