Based on your reply, it seems the problem seemingly occurs when connecting to the WiFi, and that for the most part USB is fine. Could try opening Pandora and playing the app before stepping in your car to see if you have the same experience happen. I ask just to clarify the experience if connecting to the WiFi and then trying to play Pandora through CarPlay is what is leading to your issue.
