Honestly folks, I would have to press the author of this post to be more specific on the emotional connection, sort of narrow down the field a bit.   Just to make an inference, were I to randomly pull a cut from my collection that without doubt could bring a tear to my eye, I could list several (most likely, several hundred depending upon the situation).  A solid go to could be as old as The Lion Sleeps Tonight...  Or as recent as Yellow Ledbetter..  These cuts, while vastly different in genre, date of release and subject matter have the ability, should one allow themselves to become involved with both lyrics and melody can and will take the listener off into a realm where holding a tight reign on their well of emotions becomes a slippery task, at best. All music, (well any good music) will directly connect to our emotions. What makes a good or even great vocalist is the artists ability to feel and connect her/his emotions with the song and project it to the audience. Sure, not every tune will run everyone thru a gambit of emotions. However, if a listener, ANY listener take the time to do so, they will discover as I have that every song that I have in my catalog (not every song on every album, basically the tune(s) that carried the weight to purchase said album) is a personal emotional connected cut. i recommend ppl try that. Write a list of songs that were purchased purposefully, then search your memory, perhaps play each song on your list and drift away into the track... I believe you will find some pleasant surprises. I personally believe that music, in and of itself, moves my 'soul' regardless of what I'm doing at the moment, I need the pace/rythem to be set by music.
