Android: Multiple issues when using the app

Is anyone else having these problems? Not being able to pause skip or replay songs without restarting the app. The app just randomly shutting off. The app just randomly starts playing on restart of phone. I pay for this service and lately it been really upsetting me that it isn't working half the time.

I'm having the same issues, if I select a song instead of going into auto play it continuesly plays the same song, it also won't let me skip any tracks like it's locked up. Have to close the app and restart, and than it does it again.

I've had the same issues and I got a new S24 Ultra 2 weeks ago. Still the same problem. It definitely is our phones. It's definitely something wrong with their bluetooth connectivity. I've stopped using and it still starts in the background by itself.

Edit* it isn't our phones it's their software issue. Bluetooth is the issue and they need to fix it. I've already switched to another music source, if I check in a month and it is fixed I'm canceling my premium.

Good morning,

I have seen similar threads with issues very similar to my own, but for a few months - since an Android update, Pandora has been behaving very oddly.

I have issues with the application not automatically stopping when I put away my earbuds or turn off my car.

I also have issues with the controls not responding although the music is playing. It will allow me to open a second instance of the app, then the controls will work and I can close it.

Occasionally, I will close all my apps, and Pandora will continue to play, again - I open a second instance of the app, then I can close it.

I've had Pandora premium for several years and use it as my primary source of music, these bugs have been persisting for quite a few months.

I've cleared app data and reinstalled Pandora with no success.

it has been months and months of the same complaints and pandora has done nothing to fix the issue. Yet they have the audacity to increase the price of their membership.

Yes, for many months this is an issue.

It is totally a Pandora issue as it was never a problem until Dec 2023. My vehicle does not have upgrades. Not to mention this happens with most of my Bluetooth devices in one fashion or another...

Anyone know of good app for listening to music! Obviously this one **ahem** so don't include this one in your list. I want one that works. That plays when you tell it to play and stops when you turn it off. that shuffles when you select shuffle instead of just playing the same song again? That doesn't just turn off when there is no reason to turn off? In other words a music app that actually works! I already have Premium access so don't say that. Because I'm paying $10+ a month for this garbage app and it is worthless. I want something that actually works.

How do you people put up with an app where they won't talk to you about the problems it has?

They don't talk to you about the problems you have with their app and they don't do anything to fix it? Why aren't there more posts like mine where people are unhappy about it?  They aren't going to fix **ahem** if people don't complain??

Pandora will open to hey Pandora but that's all it will do by voice. Bullcrap always happens when I don't have hands available for use .

Sometimes will be playing a song and change song and another Pandora will start playing another song at same time it's playing the song I was trying to skip. I have to completely close the apps page and reopen to have it stop and a couple songs later the same thing happens .frustrating isn't the word for it.

Same here. Same issues.looks like I will be cancelling my Pandora subscription and switching to Spotify. Too bad. I've been with Pandora since before they were bought by XM.

@Drockhead I definitely understand your frustration.

I'm happy to pass your feedback along to our engineering team as well.

Can you please confirm which issues you are experiencing?

Additionally, could you share your device info so that I can report your experience?

  • Model:
  • Carrier:
  • Android version (Settings > About Phone):
  • Pandora version:
    • If you can open Pandora, go to Profile, then select Settings. Scroll to the bottom of the screen for the version number.
    • If you can't open Pandora: from Android Home screen > Android Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Find Pandora
  • Are you connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data when this is happening?
  • Have you identified any other patterns or notable information?

I appreciate you working with me on this.

I used to use Pandora for about 2 hours every day and then have it on in the background every night when I slept. I've consistently used Pandora since 2007 or 2008 and have paid for a Pandora Premium account since 2021. I mainly used to use it on my Android Samsung Galaxy S21 5G (most current OS and Pandora version - I always keep my devices to to date with the latest updates) and my Windows 11 laptop.

Around March 2024, my Pandora voice assistant stopped working. It still opens the voice assistant to “hey Pandora” and the microphone pulses when I talk, but nothing is registered and it ends up closing with the “sorry I couldn't hear that” message. The voice assistant used to speak aloud but doesn't do that anymore either.

The Pandora app has permissions to everything but my contacts, location, and nearby devices. I've cleared the cache, cleared the data, updated the app, and uninstalled the app then reinstalled it. Considering I use Pandora every time I drive and my work commute is 1 hour, not having voice controls work is really inconvenient. I could work around it, but then recently things got worse.

Since May 2024, Pandora started freezing. Music would play in the background but there wouldn't be any way to control it - the app wouldn't take any input. Eventually my phone system would say an error occurred with the app and I'd have to force close the app. There is no definitive common trigger for this issue, but it tends to occur more when starting up the app (especially when trying to play it with Waze running in the background and the Waze navigation banner enabled in Pandora). Again, not good when I use Pandora while driving.

Since the end of July 2024, I'm starting to have issues with the Pandora website. I've started listening to Pandora in the background during work hours at my new job, thinking that I should get my money's worth of my Pandora Premium with that newly increased price, and since I was having issues with the app, why not try the website on my computer? Sadly, that didn't work either. The website will randomly start skipping through a song while playing a radio station. It jumps forward 5 or 10 seconds over and over again until I refresh the page or the website stops the song in the middle of playing/skipping through it to go on to the next song, only to have the same issue 4 songs later.

I'm tired of paying for something that doesn't work. I'm tired of constantly trying everything to get my Pandora working again. I'm tired of having thousands of songs thumbed up over 17 years and not being able to listen to them. Over the years, Pandora has introduced me to some of my favorite artists and I've bragged about Pandora being so much better than Spotify or YouTube to friends. I took pride in being a loyal Pandora customer since I was in middle school. I was so proud to finally join Pandora Premium and have access to unlimited skips. I'm not bragging anymore. I'm not proud anymore. And now I'm moving over to Spotify, despite seventeen years of loving Pandora. My Pandora Premium subscription is canceled, and I have started paying for Spotify. I miss Pandora already, but not the current one - I miss the Pandora I put 17 years of passion, enjoyment, and care into curating. I miss the Pandora that worked, not this mess of bugs and issues.

This unfortunately is not the solution. I use apple music and spotify as well and the only app that gives me issues is Pandora

@Just_serenuh I'd be happy to help with any questions you have, but I will need additional information to do so.

Can you explain your issue a bit further? The more details you're able to provide, the better equipped I'll be to help.

I look forward to hearing back.

I'm not sure what issues other people have still been having, but most of the issues i was having (except that Pandora doesn't close all the way and still runs in background) were resolved with the last update to the app. Functions well enough once again for me to keep this subscription. GregSent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone
