Why does the words allow background activity come up every single time I open up Pandora and it tells me I can dismiss it or I can open app settings I cannot figure out how to get it to stay away

Hi @Opiekeppler

The battery optimization settings on some Android devices may be on by default and request access to background activity for some apps.

To see if it will help, try disabling these settings with the following steps:

  • Open your device Settings and then Apps.
  • Scroll to find Pandora or use Search in the upper right hand corner.
  • Select Battery
  • Next select Unrestricted.

If the above does not apply, you may need to look up the specific steps for your device. Due to the numerous models of Android devices, we are unable to provide step by step instructions for every device.

Is there any way to make Pandora stop presenting this? It happens consistently - even when simply changing phone orientation. While I understand that Pandora can't troubleshoot every phone, it seems like it should be possible to tell the app that we don't care about this issue and to stop bothering us about it.

The phone in question does not have a battery > unrestricted setting

It does have settings for controlling battery issues at the app level and I already have Pandora under the list of apps to not track, not monitor, and not regulate but this has done nothing to stop that message from appearing. It happens every single time I open the app and every time the orientation changes.

I cannot do anything in the app until I deal with that alert - which, again, I have to dismiss every single time I use the app. All day. Every day.

I have tried to find and disable everything I can in the app and phone to make it stop and the problem persists.

@wyrsek The steps to access Battery Optimization can vary by Android phone and OS version. While it’s usually found under Battery or Power settings in the main Settings menu, the label may differ. For the most accurate instructions, please refer to your phone’s user guide or manufacturer’s support resources.

Let me know how it goes.

I have the app set to "unmonitored" in the battery settings (this seems to be the closest thing there is to unrestricted) and the app is also allowed unrestricted data access at the app settings level. As it is NOTHING on my phone is restricting Pandora and I still get this prompt EVERY TIME I open the app and EVERY TIME I change the screen orientation.

Why is this in-app alert not allowed to be disabled? Why doesn't "dismiss" do anything beyond silencing the alert until the next time I use the app?

The option being selected is "dismiss" not "remind me later" or "please perpetually annoy me and make my user experience a hassle".

@wyrsek Thank you for the update.

Can you send over a bit more info about your device?

  • the make and model of your device:
  • Android version (Settings > About Phone):

Additionally, can you please send me a screenshot of the pop up you are seeing?

(Please note you won't be able to attach images via email - you will need to open this Community link in a web browser in order to provide attachments)

Thanks again for working with me on this.
