Android: Share links redirect to the Google Play Store

Appelstudios
Opening Act

I'm not sure what happened but I've been able to share songs via text message with other people on my family plan up until about a week ago. Now when we click on the link it opens the Google play store instead of going to Pandora and playing the song. I have deleted and reinstalled Pandora.  I have restarted my phone. I have cleared the cache on both Pandora and the Google play store. Nothing works. It must have been something wrong with the last update. Please fix this.

@Appelstudios Thanks for flagging this! We’d like to gather a bit more detail so we can better understand what’s happening and investigate further.

When you’re sharing the link, can you let us know where you’re sharing from in the Pandora app — for example, the Now Playing screen, a playlist, or when searching for a specific song?

Also, how are you sharing the link? Does this only happen when sharing via Messages, or do you see the same behavior when using Copy Link and then sharing or opening it elsewhere?

One more thing that may help us narrow this down: does the person you’re sharing the link with already have the Pandora app installed on their device? If Pandora isn’t installed, the link will redirect them to the Google Play Store so they can install the app before opening the shared content.

If you’re able to share those details, it would be really helpful. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention!

Hi there! I have been hitting the share button on the shared songs while
it's playing. I'm sharing the song via text with my husband who is on the
family plan with me. This just started happening after the update to
Pandora on 12.12.25
When we click on the song that was shared via text, instead of opening up
Pandora and playing the song (which is what it used to do) it now just
opens up the Google play store. We have up to date android systems/phones.
We have up to date Pandora and Google play apps. We have cleared the cache
on both Pandora and Google play store. Uninstalled and reinstalled the
Pandora app and restarted the phone. Clearly this is a Pandora problem and
not a user problem. Please fix this and release a new update. Thanks.

Thanks for following up with that information, @Appelstudios.

I'd like to report your issue to our engineering team. Can you send over a bit more info about your device?

  • Model:
  • Carrier:
  • Android version (Settings > About Phone):
  • Build number (Settings > About Phone):
  • Android Security Patch Level, if noted on your device (Settings > About Phone):
  • Pandora version:
    • If you can open Pandora, go to Profile, then select Settings. Scroll to the bottom of the screen for the version number.
    • If you can't open Pandora: from Android Home screen > Android Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Find Pandora

Are you connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data when this is happening?

Have you identified any other patterns or notable information?

Thank you for working with me on this.

I've already done all this with someone else. It seems you have multiple
people working on it.
