Android: Stops When Screen Locked or App Backgrounded

akdaniel
Underground

For the past few weeks anytime I use Pandora after a few seconds of a song play it will cut off as if I have press pause and when I go back to the app it opens up as if I'm logging on for the first time.

This happens wither Im on wifi or on mobile data. My phone is an LG Stylo 6 and the version of Pandora I have is version 2007.1

I have restarted my phone cleared the catches and data on the app. I even have uninstalled Pandora and I still have this problem. I even made sure that it it wasn't my battery saver cutting off the app. I did not run into this problem until I upgrade to Pandora premium.

Hi @Pmannix25

Since this issue is on your Android device, I moved your post over to the Android space onto this existing thread: Playback stops when screen locked or app backgrounded.

  • If you're using a Samsung Galaxy device, let's check your sleeping apps. You can find out how to adjust this setting in this post.
  • If you continue to have trouble, I would recommend trying the standard Android troubleshooting steps here.

Let me know if this helps!

Hi @akdaniel! Thanks for posting.

When the music stops, is Pandora open and in the foreground of your phone, or does it stop when the app is backgrounded or the screen is locked?

In the meantime, I've enabled a trace on your account for us to get a better understanding of what may be happening.

I'd like you to clear the app data again. I know you said you've already cleared the cache/ data but would you mind doing this again while the trace is enabled?

To do that:

  1. Open your device Settings
  2. Tap Apps
  3. Scroll down to find Pandora
  4. Select Storage
  5. On the storage details page tap Clear Data.

Thanks for the help. Let me know if you run into any issues.

Pandora Update: 3/8/23

When updating the OS on Android devices, the battery optimization on all apps may be automatically turned back on by default. This can cause performance issues or interfere with playback when the Pandora app is in the background.

Please try the following steps to see if they help:

  • Open your device Settings
  • Tap Apps
  • Scroll down to find Pandora
  • Select Battery
  • On the Battery page tap Unrestricted.

Hey there, @Mb122. 👋

How come Pandora can't draw over other apps? Didn't it use to? How come they changed it

Hey there, @ChaChanna76. 👋

Thanks so much for posting on the Pandora Community!

Unfortunately, I don't quite understand your message about drawing over other apps. Could you clarify a bit more about what is happening?

Are you attempting to listen to Pandora while using another app?

Let me know. 🎧

Tanner, I have the same problem. I’ve had it for years and just thought it was my computer but it happens on all devices

@Brycewiss It sounds like the issue may be related to the network you're using to connect to Pandora if this is happening across devices.

Try rebooting your connection:

  1. Shut down your device completely;
  2. Unplug your modem and router, wait one full minute, and then plug them back in;
  3. Wait five more minutes to allow the modem and router to fully boot back up;
  4. Turn your device back on and try Pandora again.

If Pandora still isn't working, could you check if you're able to connect to your network using another streaming service, such as YouTube?

You might also try connecting your device to an entirely different network, or using a different device on your current network, to see if your streaming improves.

Let me know how it goes!
