Android: Stops When Screen Locked or App Backgrounded

akdaniel
Underground

For the past few weeks anytime I use Pandora after a few seconds of a song play it will cut off as if I have press pause and when I go back to the app it opens up as if I'm logging on for the first time.

This happens wither Im on wifi or on mobile data. My phone is an LG Stylo 6 and the version of Pandora I have is version 2007.1

I have restarted my phone cleared the catches and data on the app. I even have uninstalled Pandora and I still have this problem. I even made sure that it it wasn't my battery saver cutting off the app. I did not run into this problem until I upgrade to Pandora premium.

@Rustard To clarify, does the music only stop when the app is backgrounded?

Or is the issue that even when the app is open, the music pauses on its own, and you have to press play again?

Let me know.

Thanks for following up, @Rustard.

I moved your post over to this existing thread: Android: Stops When Screen Locked or App Backgrounded

Please check out this post regarding the settings for sleeping apps here.

Something else to note, when updating the OS on Android devices, the battery optimization on all apps may be automatically turned back on by default.

This can cause performance issues or interfere with playback when the app is backgrounded. Due to the sheer volume of Android devices, we are unable to provide step by step instructions for each and every device. I recommend looking up the steps to manage battery optimization for the specific make and model of your device and disable this for the Pandora app.

You can also find more info about the battery optimization in this helpful article

If you're still having trouble, I would recommend trying out the basic / advanced troubleshooting steps for your Android device.

Let me know how it goes.

I have a Galaxy S22 Ultra and pandora crashes several times a day. Has anyone experienced this?

It does not happen on my wife's S21 Ultra

My music randomly switches stations and/or stops playing altogether. This is the only app on my phone that has this issue.

Otherwise, if you're still having trouble, can you send over a bit more info about your device?

  • Model:
  • Carrier:
  • Android version (Settings > About Phone):
  • Build number (Settings > About Phone):
  • Android Security Patch Level, if noted on your device (Settings > About Phone):
  • Pandora version:

Are you connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data when this is happening?

Have you identified any other patterns or notable information?

Hope this helps let us know how it goes!

My android Samsung gallaxy s215g keeps turning off before a song even finishes, it just started doing this. I had a screen pop up saying something about a timer. According to my profile it's says timer is off.

I'm also experiencing this problem on a Samsung S21+.  After or prior to the end of each song Pandora has to be reopened.  My screen is dark so I  don't know if there are any messages.

Pandora simply stops after a few songs on my Samsung Galaxy and I have to go to apps to start it again, losing whatever song I was into. No message. Now I'm listening on my laptop and I keep getting the message that someone else is listening and it stops playing until I respond. Maybe that is what was happening on my phone? Either way, I pay for Premium and had changed my passwords somewhat recently. How do I make sure Pandora is signed out of ALL other computers/phones when I change my password again?

I checked that "sign out of all other devices" box last time.  There shouldn't be any other devices with access.
