Hi Matt,

So good to hear from you and glad to hear you are still busy with projects.
Hope everyone in your family is healthy.

Thanks for making yourself available to post a few words about my latest project, “Rise.”

I’m sure you can polish this a bit but here’s a few thoughts:

Rise is a musical quilt of mysterious moods seamlessly stitching together themes of romance and high drama.
Unexpected twists and turns make for a satisfying musical journey.

Part classical, part film score laced with Spanish guitar and a touch of jazz for seasoning.

A stellar performance is turned in by Brazilian acoustic guitar master, “Itaiguara Brandáo who duets with
with Phil’s grand piano. All of it bathed in lush orchestration.

One can listen to it here on Pandora:

Big thanks Matt. So appreciate your efforts.

Kind Regards,

Phil

p.s. btw, I sent this last week and just hit the return tab on the email you sent. I’m guessing that was a mistake on my part.

Good Friday morning, and welcome back to GSOTD (Genre Songs Of The Day). Today, we have a real treat and a very nice gem to share with you. Jazz music artist Phil Klein@philmobet ) has a new release that just came out, and has asked me to share it with the @Pandora community. So spread the love and share this amazing new song with others. I will also be posting two other gems to go along with Phil's new hit. Enjoy the music.

Cinematic / InspirationalRise by Phil Klein@philmobet ). "Some songs don’t just play—they lift. 'Rise' is one of those rare pieces that feels like a sunrise in sound. With orchestral grace and quiet strength, Phil Klein invites us to stand, breathe, and begin again."  Orchestral and exotic voice accompaniments support the duet of Phil on Piano and Itaiguara Brandåo on Acoustic Guitar. Part classical, part film score, and part Spanish guitar with a pinch of jazz for seasoning, “Rise” takes you on an exhilarating musical journey. Phil Klein Radio, this link will not only connect you to Phil's music, but music from other great Jazz artists.

Folk RockRipple by the Grateful Dead“Ripple” is the sixth song on the Grateful Dead album American Beauty. It was released as the B-side to the single “Truckin'”. Robert Hunter wrote this song in 1970 in London on the same afternoon he wrote “Brokedown Palace” and “To Lay Me Down” (reputedly also drinking half a bottle of retsina in the process). The song debuted on August 18, 1970, at Fillmore West in San Francisco. Jerry Garcia wrote the music to this song.

Country/ GospelWasted by Carrie UnderwoodThe Carrie Underwood Wasted song was released in February 2007 as the sixth and final single from her multi-platinum debut album, Some Hearts. It began receiving country radio airplay as an album track, causing it to place on the US Country chart weeks before its official release as a single.  This song reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart starting April 21, 2007. “Wasted” is a song that deals with the theme of regret and the consequences of bad decisions. The lyrics talk about the feeling of wasting time and energy on things that don’t matter in the long run, and how this can lead to a sense of emptiness and despair.

Have a blessed day. Take care and GOD bless.

Good Friday afternoon, and welcome to GSOTD (Genre Songs Of The Day). Today, I will be adding three songs to this post and playlist. Enjoy the music and the read.

Modal jazz: Freddie Freeloader (feat John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Wynton Kelly & Paul Chambers) by Miles Davis.

"Freddie Freeloader" is a composition by Miles Davis and is the second track on his 1959 album Kind of Blue. The piece takes the form of a twelve-bar blues in B, but the chord over the final two bars of each chorus is an A7, not the traditional B7 followed by either F7 for a turnaround or some variation of B7 for an ending. Davis employed Wynton Kelly as the pianist for this track in place of Bill Evans, as Kelly was something of a blues specialist. The solos are by Kelly, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, and Paul Chambers. The origin of the title is disputed. Jon Hendricks and Kind of Blue chronicler Ashley Kahn claim that Fred Tolbert was a Philadelphia bartender whose business card read "Freddie the Freeloader". According to the documentary Kind of Blue: Made in Heaven, and an anecdote from the jazz pianist Monty Alexander, the piece was named after an individual named Freddie who would frequently try to see the music Davis and others performed without paying (thus freeloading ). The name may have also been inspired by Red Skelton’s most famous character, "Freddie the Freeloader," the hobo clown. Jon Hendricks, on the eponymous record, added vocalese-style lyrics to all of the original solos (himself singing Coltrane's part), reimagining it as a story about a barman who allowed jazz musicians to freeload at his bar at the expense of other patrons.

Reggaetón/ Dancehall/ Latin Pop/Pop Rap/ Contemporary R&B: MIA (feat. Drake)  by Bad Bunny.

"Mía" (transl. "Mine") is a song by Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny featuring Canadian rapper Drake. It was released on October 11, 2018, through OVO Sound, Rimas Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Records, as the second single from the former's debut studio album X 100pre  (2018). The song was written by Benito Martinez, Aubrey Graham, Edgar Semper Vargas, Elvin Peña, Francis Diaz, Henry Pulman, Luian Malave Nieves, Joseph Negron Velez, Max Borghetti, Noah Assad, and Xavier Semper Vargas, and produced by DJ Luian, Tainy, La Pacienci, and Mambo Kingz. "Mía" peaked at number five on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Bunny's first top 10 single on the chart as a lead artist and Drake's 26th.

New Wave/Dance-rock/Pop: Shake It Up (Remastered) by The Cars. Shake It Up is the fourth studio album by American new wave band Cars, released on November 6, 1981, by Elektra Records. It was the last Cars record to be produced byRoy Thomas Baker. A much more pop-oriented album than its predecessor, its title track became the band's first Billboard top-10 single. Spin magazine included it on their "50 Best Albums of 1981" list.

Have a blessed weekend. Take care and GOD bless.

Good Friday morning friend, today for GSOTD, I will be adding three songs to today's post and playlist. Enjoy the music as well as the read.

Acoustic Folk/ Soft Rock / Folk Rock/ Reggae InfluenceHome by Jack Johnson.  Jack Hody Johnson is an American singer-songwriter. His music falls into genres like folk, surf-rock, and various other subgenres. Johnson's musicianship has earned him multiple spots on the Billboard 200 chart, reaching number one on the chart with his albums Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George in 2006, Sleep Through the Static in 2008, To the Sea in 2010, and From Here to Now to You in 2013. His album In Between Dreams peaked at number two on the chart in 2005 and again in 2013.

Country Pop/Singer-Songwriter / Acoustic BalladTrue Believer by Brett James. For over two decades, Brett James has written career-defining songs for countless artists, including Carrie Underwood ("Jesus Take the Wheel," "Love Wins"), Kelly Clarkson ("Mr. Know It All"), and Kenny Chesney. (“Out Last Night,” “When the Sun Goes Down”) and Dierks Bentley (“I Hold On”). Today, the Nashville-based hit songwriter is releasing some music of his own. “True Believer,” his first single as a solo artist in nearly two decades. The heartfelt ballad he penned for his daughter marks the beginning of his first solo project in over 20 years. The poignant ballad has James’ soulful voice at the forefront alongside delicate strums of an acoustic guitar and soaring string accompaniment. Throughout the beautiful tune that he wrote for his 19-year-old daughter, he promises to always be there for her. “I’ll be your true believer/ The secret place you hide/ Your promise never leave/ I’m always on your side,” he sings on the chorus. (Brett James Cornelius, a Grammy-winning Nashville songwriter known professionally as Brett James, died on Sept. 18, 2025, after a small-engine plane crashed in a field in Franklin, North Carolina.

Gothic pop/ Trip hop/ Soul/ alternative pop: Waking Up by MJ Cole & Freya Ridings"Waking Up" by MJ Cole & Freya Ridings explores the complexities of love and the process of self-discovery. The song delves into the narrator's realization of their own feelings and desires, as well as their struggle to understand and be understood by their partner. In the first verse, Freya Ridings expresses her love with open eyes, suggesting a level of vulnerability and honesty. She admits that she needs her partner to accept her without necessarily understanding everything about her. This line could imply that she longs for acceptance and support, even if her partner may not fully comprehend or relate to her experiences. "Waking Up" is a collaborative single by English producer MJ Cole and fellow English singer-songwriter Freya Ridings. It was released as a single on 11 December 2018 and was subsequently included in Cole's Waking Up EP, released on 27 February 2019. The official video for the song was released on the same day.

Have a blessed weekend. Take care and GOD bless.

Good Wednesday morning, dear friend. Welcome to GSOTD. Today, I will be adding three instrumental gems that I hope you will find to be gems as well. Enjoy the music.

Ambient/ Contemporary Classical/ Neoclassical/ Classical/ Electronic/ PianoThe Consolations of Philosophy by Max Richter. The Consolations of Philosophy sits in that unmistakable Max Richter space — sparse piano, slow harmonic drift, and a melody that feels like it’s remembering something it can’t quite name. It’s a study in restraint: no flourish, no climax, just a quiet emotional gravity that pulls you inward. Richter has a way of writing music that feels like a private thought, and this piece is one of those moments where the simplicity is the point.

Electronica/ Downtempo/ Ambient/ Electronic Rock: Living by Moby (Richard Melville Hall). Living is a snapshot of a moment when Moby was pushing against expectations. After early rave success and before the global explosion of Play, he was exploring guitar‑driven emotional landscapes. This track is one of the gentler, more atmospheric pieces from that period—almost a precursor to the reflective mood he’d later perfect.

Contemporary classical / Neo‑classical: On The Nature Of Daylight (Bonus Track) by Max Richter. On the Nature of Daylight is one of Max Richter’s most beloved and emotionally resonant works — a piece that has taken on a life far beyond its original album. Richter’s language here blends classical string writing with minimalist repetition and ambient emotional pacing. It’s not “classical” in the traditional sense — it’s cinematic, slow‑burning, and built for emotional clarity rather than complexity. From the album The Blue Notebooks (2004). The Blue Notebooks — the album containing this track — was conceived as a protest against the 2003 invasion of Iraq and violence in general. While On the Nature of Daylight isn’t explicitly political, it carries the emotional weight of the album’s themes: fragility, humanity, and the quiet ache of witnessing suffering.

Take care, and GOD bless.

Good Thursday morning, welcome to GSOTD. I will be adding a couple of classics, along with a more recent hit. Enjoy the music.

Soul/ Jazz/ Blues: Ain't No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell.  “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” marked the first collaboration between soul artists Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell in terms of releases. It was the first single from their debut album United, where it also appeared as the opening track on the record.

Although they kept their relationship as professional as could be, the two were practically inseparable, with most describing them as “brother and sister.” At Terrell’s funeral after her tragic death at the mere age of 24, her mother barred everyone at Motown from attending except Gaye (who also delivered the eulogy), as she felt he was her only friend there. Perhaps there really was no mountain, valley, or river that could ever come between them. Writers of the UK publication NME listed the song as one of the Top 150 Singles of All Time, and the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. The song would go on to be covered by dozens of artists, including Diana Ross, The Supremes, and The Temptations, as well as the songwriters Ashford & Simpson, among others.

Indie Rock/ New WaveReal Wild Child (Wild One) by Iggy Pop. The original song was written by Johnny Greenan, Johnny O’Keefe, and Dave Owens and released as a single by Johnny O’Keefe in 1958. Iggy Pop’s cover appears on the “Blah Blah Blah album and was released as a single in 1986. It reached number 1 on the New Zealand singles chart and #10 on the official UK singles chart. Perhaps you may be familiar with this song from

  • Adventures in Babysitting (1987) — One of the earliest and most iconic uses.

  • Crocodile Dundee II (1988) — Fits the film’s energetic tone.

  • Problem Child (1990) and Problem Child 2 (1991) — Used for the mischievous vibe.

  • Harriet the Spy (1996) — Appears in the soundtrack.

  • Madagascar (2005) — Used in the animated film’s lively sequences.

  • Open Season 3 (2010) — Another animated appearance.

  • Five Nights at Freddy’s (2023)

Pop/ Pop Rock/ Rock/ Blues Rock/ Roots Rock/ Story Song Pop: Indiana Wants Me by Gin Blossoms, Blues Traveler, & Spin Doctors. There’s a lived‑in charm to this cover — the kind of track that feels like three bands with shared road dust deciding to tell a story together. It reaches back to 1970, when R. Dean Taylor wrote and released the original “Indiana Wants Me,” a dramatic, cinematic slice of story‑song pop about a man on the run. That DNA is still here, but the emotional color shifts in the hands of these ’90s veterans, who came together in 2025 to record their version ahead of their joint summer tour. Robin Wilson brings that familiar bittersweet ache, Chris Barron leans into the conversational storytelling, and John Popper threads harmonica lines that feel like headlights cutting through dusk on a long Midwestern highway. The bones of Taylor’s narrative stay intact, but the mood becomes warmer, more communal — less fugitive panic, more reflective road‑movie melancholy.

It’s loose, human, a little ragged in the right places — the sound of musicians who know exactly who they are and don’t need to prove a thing. What you get is a rootsy reinterpretation that honors the past while letting each band’s personality breathe.

Take care, and GOD bless.

Good Friday morning, dear friend. Welcome to GSOTD. Today I will be adding three songs to today's post and to the GSOTD Playlist. If you haven't noticed that GSOTD Playlist has been updated. Enjoy the music.

80's/ Post- Punk/ New WaveOnce in a Lifetime (2005 Remaster) by Talking Heads

"Once in a Lifetime" is a song by the American new wave band Talking Heads, produced and co-written by Brian Eno. It was released in January 1981 through Sire Records as the first single from Talking Heads' fourth studio album, Remain in Light  (1980)Eno and Talking Heads developed "Once in a Lifetime" through extensive jams, inspired by Afrobeat musicians such as Fela Kuti. David Byrne's vocals were inspired by preachers delivering sermons, with lyrics about existential crisis and the unconscious. In the music video, directed by Byrne and Toni Basil, Byrne dances erratically over footage of religious rituals.

Pop-Rock/ Folk-RockHandle With Care by Traveling Wilburys. "Handle with Care" is a song by the British-American supergroup the Traveling Wilburys. It was released in October 1988 as their debut single and as the opening track of their album Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 . The song was the first recording made by the group, although it was originally intended as a bonus track on a European single by George Harrison. When he and Jeff Lynne presented the song to Harrison's record company, the executives insisted it was too good for that purpose, a decision that resulted in the formation of the Wilburys. The song was written primarily by Harrison, although, as with all the tracks on Vol. 1, the writing credit lists all five members of the band: Harrison, Lynne, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, and Tom Petty.

"Handle with Care" was the Wilburys' most successful single. It peaked at number 39 on the Cashbox Top 100  and 45 on the Billboard Hot 100  in the United States, number 2 on the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart, and number 21 on the UK Singles Chart, and was a top-five hit in Australia and New Zealand. Directed by David Leland, the video for the song was an MTV  favourite in the late 1980s. Petty and his band, the Heartbreakers, often performed "Handle with Care" in concert. Lynne sang it with them at the Concert for George, a year after Harrison's death in November 2001. Harrison's son, Dhani Harrison, sang lead on the song with Jeff Lynne's ELO  during their 2019 US tour.

Pop rock/ Glam rock/ Psychedelic pop: Rocket Man (I Think It's Going To Be A Long Long Time) (Remastered 2017) by Elton John

"Rocket Man", also known as "Rocket Man (I Think It's Going to Be a Long, Long Time)", is a song written by British musician Elton John and lyricist Bernie Taupin, and performed by John. It was originally released on 17 April 1972 in the US, as the lead single to John's album Honky Château. The song first charted in the UK on 22 April, rising to No. 2 in the UK singles chart and No. 6 in the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming a major hit single for John. It is considered to be John's signature songOn 5 April 2024, the song was certified triple platinum by the British Phonographic Industry  (BPI) for sales and streams of 1,800,000 digital downloads and streaming equivalent sales. With sales of five million in the US, the song was certified 5× platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America  (RIAA). Rolling Stone lists it at No. 149 of its 500 greatest songs of all time . On 6 January 2024, Rocket Man surpassed one billion streams on Spotify.

The song has been covered by many artists, most notably by Kate Bush in 1991, and by Portuguese singer David Fonseca in 2007. John himself, alongside producer Pnau and singer Dua Lipa, included the song in his 2021 mashup single "Cold Heart (Pnau remix) ". William Shatner's spoken-word version from 1978 has been widely parodied.

Have a blessed day. Take care, and GOD bless.
