iOS: Auto-Start can’t be disabled with free account

I lay down to listen to music to relax. Many times I’ll use YouTube music for this, and I’ll use pandora when I drive. Whenever I lay down and put my headphones in, Pandora automatically starts to play and there’s no way to disable it.

pandora claims you can disable it by opening the app, then settings> advanced > toggle auto play off or on but literally NO SUCH OPTION EXISTS ON THE APP. Nothing about auto play after you hit the advanced menu. What can I do? I am irritated to no end with this and about to delete the app.

@Weird_noise583 I can understand why that would be frustrating, especially when you’re just trying to relax and something starts playing unexpectedly.

What you’re running into is tied to a feature called Auto-Start. The instructions you found are correct in general, but that setting is currently only available for Pandora Plus and Pandora Premium subscribers. On the free service, that toggle won’t appear in the app, which is why you’re not seeing the option described.

If having control over Auto-Start is important to you, a great next step would be to share that feedback directly with our product team. You can do that by posting in our Ideas space.

Ideas posted there can be upvoted by other listeners who feel the same way, which helps highlight what features the community would most like to see added.

This all being said, I have created a ticket with our support team for you.

They will be contacting you privately via email to help look into this further, so please keep an eye out for their message.

Appreciate you again for calling this out — you’re definitely not alone in wanting more control over playback behavior.
