iOS: Thumbs down song continues to play

Lately when I hit the thumbs down on an artist/track it will play it even more, sometimes right after I hit the thumbs down.

What is going down?!

Hi @ckeyes888 , thanks for telling me.

We do not offer an option to prevent an artist from playing on your account or specific stations. I would  recommend giving this existing feature request a 💚 to express your interest in getting it added to the service.

Usually, if you give consistent Thumbs-down to an artist on a given station, Pandora should learn to stop playing that artist on that station, however, I've taken a look at your account, and I think you're having this particular issue as a result of a very high number of Thumbed down tracks on your stations.

I can see that on most of them you barely have thumbed up tracks but have given plenty of thumbs down. On some stations you may even have 0 👍 and over 90 👎.

Thumbed down tracks narrow down the song pool and can lead to the error you are experiencing. Thumbed up tracks, on the other hand, act like seeds that inspire similar music to play.

Since there's a minimal amount or none thumbed up songs on your stations and several thumbed down songs your station may have trouble finding new songs to show you so it may repeat the recently played song instead of showing a new song. This may also show an error message saying something like "there are no more stations available.

To fix the error, you'll need to remove some Thumb Down ratings and continue to Thumb Up those songs that really stand out. Balancing your Thumb ratings can help you tune your stations as you desire.

Here's how to edit thumbs from the backstage page:

  1. From My Collection, visit your station list.
  2. Tap on the name of the station you'd like to edit. As a Pandora Plus subscriber, this will start your station, so tap either the Thumb or small "i" icon in the upper right corner of your screen to continue to the station's backstage page.
  3. From the station's backstage page, tap on the Edit icon (the small pencil to the left of the play button) to edit your station.
  4. Scroll down to either your Thumbed Up Songs or your Thumbed Down Songs.
  5. Tap the beside whichever thumb ratings you'd like to remove.

Hope this helps!

Hi @ckeyes888 , welcome to the community!

I'll be happy to help you with this but I need more info about the issue. Can you tell me more about what's happening?

  • Is this only happening when listening on your phone? Or on other devices too?
  • What is the make and model (and carrier, if applicable)?
  • Does this happen when you give thumbs down from the widget when the screen is locked or on the app directly?
  • Is there an error message? If yes, what exactly does it say?

Also can you tell me if this is happening with a particular station or any of them? If it is a particular station I'll need:

  • The name of the station where this occurred.
  • The name(s) of the artist(s).
  • The title(s) of the track(s).

If it is in general it would be great to have some names  too so we can take a  look.

Le me know!

I only use an older iPod.

I use thumbs down only in the app.

No error messages.

It happens on any artist or song.

Appreciate any help!
