I believe both. Over WiFi, I can see the device request a burst of data from the network each time. Over cellular, there is a delay before the song starts playing, which I am assuming to be caused by the same network activity except that the cellular network is slower.

I think we're confusing each other over the word download. When I say download, I mean it in the traditional sense of transmitting several megabytes of data to my device. If I am using Spotify and I click on the first song of an album, the beginning of the song is transmitted to my device, I start to hear the song, and the rest of the song gets transmitted in the background soon after. Ditto when I click on the second song of that album. However, if I click on the first song again, it will begin playing right away, as it is already in a temporary cache on my device. I can play those two songs over and over without any delay and without having to download their contents from the mobile network over and over against. If I am using Pandora, and return back to the first song, I need to wait several seconds for those same several megabytes of data to be sent over the mobile network all over again before the song starts.

I'm talking about searching for an artist, selecting an album, and playing it. No advance playlisting, collecting, downloading, etc. Tap the first song on the album, wait for it to download, start listening. Tap the second song on the album, wait for it to download, start listening. Then, return to the first song on the album and it will download that song all over again. It's as if there is no cache at all. It makes exploring an album feel less responsive than Spotify.

@AdamPandora My original message states that I was able to access my account just fine until opening the Pandora Community site. Support didn't understand that I was reporting a potential bug that they should try to reproduce. Instead, they sent me a form email that assumed my account had been stolen, reset my password, and removed all associated devices from my account. That was frustrating and doesn't address the potential bug, that I was just trying to help by reporting.

If I switch back and forth between the same two songs on the Android app (v1912.1), the songs get repeatedly downloaded. This causes several seconds of silence between every click and the start of playback. It also causes dramatically more data usage than is necessary.

The Pandora Community forum should not count as a listener to the service. If I am listening to Pandora on my Android device and open community.pandora.com on my desktop browser, the Android device stops playing and displays a dialog indicating that "someone else is listening". Even if I am past any redirects that might happen and am already sitting in https://community.pandora.com, opening Pandora on Android is blocked with a "someone else is listening" dialog.

I had an existing Pandora installation on an iPad, which I used for ad-supported station listening. After using a desktop browser to sign up for the Pandora Premium trial, I returned back to the iPad to start listening. Upon opening Pandora, the screen was overtaken in solid blue and a seemingly half-loaded welcome to Premium banner. It was obvious how to get past it. I had to leave the app and come back. Then, one song began playing but a different song was visually indicated. Once I disposed the app and fully reopened it, I was able to move past that first impression and start exploring Premium features.

When heading to community.pandora.com after not having visited for a day or so, a huge red banner says Authentication Failed along with a bulleted list of what might be going on. From that page, if I click Sign In, I am instantly logged in, revealing that I still had an active session. I think something is wrong with the https://www.pandora.com/account/community-redirect page in my history.

I have created a station from one artist, Unders, and then used the Add Variety feature to include additional artists, most of which are very different from the original artist, such as Patrick Watson. Over and hour and many skips later, I had only heard dance songs, the genre of the source artist. It felt like my additional variety artists were being ignored. I changed the mode of the station to artist only. It played through the Unders songs in the catalog and then reset the mode of the station back to the default, removing the artist only option. I would like a single station to meander through songs that each relate to a different one of the variety artists. How can I configure my station to do this?

I have created a station and then chose Add Variety. I tried to add artist "Wild Side" but it does not appear in the list. I do see the similarly named "Wildside", but that is not who I'm looking for.
When I click the general search, and search for "Wild Side", I am then able to find the artist -- https://www.pandora.com/artist/wild-side/ARjcl455jbbgvgX
Why can they not be added as station variety via search?
