Some projects are deeply personal, others are crowd pleasers. Where do you land?
How do you balance personal expression with audience expectations?
TBH, there is nothing more gratifying then writing a song (or even a section of a song!) that truly connects with the audience. There is a mutual energy in live performance when the band and crowd are both giving and taking. It creates the electricity that makes live music so exciting.
With that being said, I love writing upbeat (in a tempo sense) music which inherently lends itself to be a bit more engaging live. If I have fun and enjoy the song, I think it will come through and the audience will pick up on that 🙂
