Desktop: Music Stops When Computer Sleeps

julanaw
Local Performer

Pandora used to keep playing on my plugged-in laptop even when the screen went dark. The computer would not go to sleep but kept playing music. NOW when the screen goes dark, the computer goes to sleep and the music stops. When I wake up the computer, the music starts immediately. How do I get the old way back?

There’s the problem… I don’t want the screen to stay on. I want pandora to have kept its old settings.

Hi there, @julanaw. 👋

This may be a setting you need to change on your device.

Could you share a bit more info? It's helpful to know:

  • The make and model of your computer?
  • Also, are you using a web browser or the Pandora Desktop app?
    • If you're using a browser, which one?

Let me know. 🎧

I don’t think this is a device error because I’m having the same problem. I buy pandora for a business device. We like to have music play all day long from our computer. It’s annoying because we tattoo. Every time the music goes off we have to take our gloves off to check.

Hey, @artbound. 👋

This could be related to your sleep settings based on your computer's OS, if Pandora plays normally when you're interacting with your computer.

Would you mind sharing more details about how you're listening when this happens?

  • The make and model of your computer
  • Also, are you using a web browser or the Pandora Desktop app?
  • If you're using a browser, which one?

If you have a Windows computer, you can try these settings:

Try disabling the sleep mode if you wish to have the music whenever you are away from the computer.

  1. Type Power Options in the search bar and click on it.
  2. On left pane, Select Change when the computer sleeps.
  3. Make "Put the computer into sleep" to NEVER and press Save Changes.

Will using the Pandora App change this? The only way I can listen for any real time is if I'm there to babysit or if I keep an active game on.  It's just the screen saver causing me grief so I don't want to stop the sleep function for the whole PC. Using an Alien PC with windows and chrome.  Please help. I want my music without needing to give it so much attention.

PS I am not very tech savvy so I beg you, detailed instructions.

Is your issue with the PC going to sleep or just the screensaver coming on? trying to compare notes.

Hi @Ticklish_Imp,

If you haven't, I would recommend through the troubleshooting steps based on how you listen. You can check them out here: Chrome Troubleshooting

Please let me know how it goes.
