Desktop: Pandora Stops Working When Ads Appear

ImaPepper
Opening Act

I've used Pandora Free for years but recently when ads begin, it freezes up and stops working entirely instead of playing the ads.  I've tried Chrome, FF, Explorer, Edge, and Brave and it seems to happen on all.  I can live with ads, but with this now happening I'm near to seeking alternatives to beloved Pandora.... Help!

@Acnhlover Could you tell me a bit more about what is happening?

Does Pandora only freeze when an ad is about to play?

Also are you listening to Pandora on a computer or on a device?

  1. If you are on a computer, are you listening from:
    • A Mac or Windows computer?
    • Our website, or the desktop app? If you're listening from our website, what browser are you using?
  2. If you are on a device, what is the make and model (and carrier, if applicable)?
  3. Is there an error message? If so, what does it say?
  4. Can you provide me with a screenshot of what you're seeing?

Thanks for working with me on this. 🤝

This is happening to my Pandora service, as well. It freezes when an ad is to play - stops totally. It unfreezes when I click on the Pandora icon and the ad plays. But then it freezes before the music begins until I click on the icon. Happens every time.

Hi there, @213850. 👋

Sorry for any trouble you've experienced.

Have you tried running through the standard troubleshooting steps? If not, I would recommend the following:

Web Browser Troubleshooting:

Pandora Desktop App Troubleshooting:

If the issue persists after troubleshooting, could you share more information about the advertisement?

  • Does this happen with a specific advertisement? If so, which one?
  • What was the ad for? Do you remember the brand, product, event or website name?
  • How are you accessing Pandora? Are you on a computer, phone, tablet or in-home device (TV, Xbox, Blu-ray player, etc.)?
  • Was it a visual ad, an audio ad, or a video ad with audio?
  • Which of your station(s) did you hear/see it on?

I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. 🎧

Windows 10, Chrome with adblock disabled. The screen is frozen at "ADVERTISEMENT" with nothing else in the black box. There is a Dove ad on the right side of the screen. I click on the black box and takes me to a Dove advertisement in a new tab. After watching the ad to the end on the other page and closing it, the right hand side ad disappears but the issue remains.

Refreshing the tab does nothing. Closing and reopening the browser does nothing. The track info at the bottom says the ad is at 0:00 | 0:00.

Edit: frozen again after two songs after clearing cache and cookies.

Clearing cookies and cache and restarting the browser fixed it but I've also had this issue on my android app. Why is a cookie necessary to check if an ad is frozen?

What mine does is when the ad comes on it stops playing and I have to hit the play button. When the secone ad comes up I have to hit the play button again. After the last ad the music will play without me having to press anything and will continue as long as songs are playing.

I have been listening to Pandora for years. Now whenever I get to an ad, Pandora stops playing, and I have to go back in and hit the play button to get it to start again. Happening every time an ad pops up now. Never happened before. I went into settings and cleared out all the cookies and restarted my computer and it still happened. Also made sure auto play was on. Any help?
