Amazon Alexa: Won't Play Requested Station

gprayback
Opening Act

Recently stations that have always worked with the Pandora skill on an Alexa device have stopped working. I'll say something like "tell Pandora to play the station calm yoga music." Until recently, it would play  my station which matches that name. But recently it has stopped finding some stations. And once it loses it, it will never find it again. It feels like there's a cache or something that's storing names of recently played stations and if it isn't in the cache, the Pandora skill won't find it from the Alexa device. It's quite frustrating because this is the only way I listen to my music and I have to keep going to the Alexa app and finding my Pandora stations there. I don't understand why the Pandora skill can't find them.

I have been using Pandora on the Alexa for a couple of years now and and finally starting to have some issues. Whenever I ask her to play my "Peter Hollens Station" which I listen to quite often, she either plays "Peter Hollens Holiday" or she tells me "there are no stations by that name" I have tried to make a special routine for it with voice commands but I get told the same thing even though it's been typed in.

I also have occasionally had it tell me I cannot send feedback on certain stations - Peter Hollens included. and since there is no way to access my listening history on the Alexa I am not sure what to do. I have tried to search the songs I dislike but cannot down thumb there either

@Shadowkatts43 I moved your post over to this existing thread: Amazon Alexa: Won't Play Requested Station

Thanks for your patience as our engineers continue to investigate this issue.

In the meantime, you can use the following steps as a work-around to listen to a station on your Alexa device:

  • Open the Pandora app and start your station.
  • Next open the Alexa App and tap Play in the bottom navigation menu.
  • Locate the same station in Pandora section found under Recently Played.
  • Tap on the station to choose your preferred speaker.

We appreciate your understanding as we work on this.

Can someone from Amazon or Pandora please assist?  This is so frustrating. Something changed and now tons of people are having issues. Please help us fix it or undo whatever you did.

Someone on a previous message suggested using the Alexa app to change the names of your stations; then use voice commands to play them; then go back and rename them back to their original names. It worked for me and I'm hoping that whoever came up with that idea is reading this so they can accept my thanks.

I had this problem for over a year. Finally found the perfect solution! I dumped Pandora and Alexa and now listen to music using Siri and Apple Music. Not only does this work every time, but the variety of music on the stations is so much better.

I did the same and I have had no problems since!

Yeah, it is still a problem for me. I should consider ditching as well.
Crazy how long this hasn't been working. Absolute insanity.

HEY GUYS I FIGURED IT OUT, I hope you all get to see this and it works for you.

Our Alexas are connected to my son's Pandora acct (because you can only have 1 acct attached for the whole family). Well he opened his Pandora app and saw all these stations that he doesn't listen to or didn't recognize and... HE DELETED THEM! UGH

So I had him add the stations I use back, and now I can request them through any of our Alexas again.

Make sure the stations you are requesting are listed in whoever's Pandora account is registered in your Alexa app. I hope this was helpful and saves AMZ some customers because I was about to quit on them myself.

Same issue with me. And this is 2024. I always said Alexa play Brunch Cafe Radio kn Pandora.and it always played it. Then it started messing up and playing Asian music even tho it said it was Brunch Cafe Radio. I deleted the station but am not able to add it back even tho it's listed on Pandora for my stations. Very frustrating. I have to get on the station on  my iphone then select to play on echo.

Yes but now it's 2024!

Yes I'm having same problem as all these 100s people but is now 2024. Isn't there some solution I can try now?!

This is not a solution for me. Has nothing to do with my Amazon music Playlist. This is Pandora. Other channels play fine on echo from Pandora except this 1 station I deleted and tried to add back on.

🤣🤣🤣except this is 2024 and I can't get it to work. So much for them working on it 2 years later.

🤣🤣🤣it's 2024 and I'm tapping my foot!

I renamed my custom Pandora stations and Alex was then able to play them when requested. I renamed them back to their original names and Alexa continued to play them correctly when requested. Fortunately, I only had around 10 custom stations to deal with. It's been working fine for many months now. Try that.

I have one station that we can play so I renamed it. Eventually that one quit playing, so I gave her the new original third name and so far it seems to be working.

I think my problem was that the original radio station that I was playing no longer exists, so it is essentially a playlist now.

Thank you. If I go on my Alexa app I can play from recent. I named it the name of the station and she repeated back. But when I say play so and so she says can't find it. All started when I deleted the channel when it was playing asian music even tho listed as my correct channel.

This is Aug 2024 and still having same problem. I've tried renaming etc. Only way I can get it to Play Brunch Cafe Radio on Pandora is to bring up on my phone and transfer to echo. A real pain! Why don't they reply to this?!

Tonight when I ask Alexa to play Pandora, she doesn't play the shuffled songs that play on my laptop or phone. Alexa used to do this. Now she is stuck on 1 station called Darlin and I hate it. When I tell her I have "feedback" all she says is thank you and it just keeps happening. What is going on?

My Alexa is not all that old....only a few months. I don't understand why it is happening.

Download the app and load up the station you want on the device you are
trying to use. Next time you say play pandora, she will play that station.
Also, you can try this "Alexa, play station on pandora."
Good luck!

The “work around” I’ve had to use is to go into the Alexa app, click more, music & more, choose your station, and play to the device. Later when I go back to it, I just tell Alexa to resume pandora and it’ll play the last station.

I see from searching hundreds of people posting with similar issues dating back years. I have various Alexa echos and echo dots throughout my house that I use to play music daily. Suddenly, in the last week, it won’t play or find almost any song or station with a voice command. I’ve also lost the ability to search specific songs through the Alexa app to play them. If I search artist and song, it only shows artists options. It USED to be (last week and before) that I’d have a 50/50 shot of searching in the Alexa app for a specific song, getting it, playing it and a station would follow. For the 50% where I couldn’t find it, I could go to the Pandora app, search it, play it, pause after a few seconds and force close Pandora app then switch back to Alexa and refresh to show the song/station I manually searched for. This no longer works either.
