Independence Declaration Date: Contrary to popular belief, the Declaration of Independence wasn’t signed on July 4, 1776. The actual signing took place later, and the document was adopted by the Continental Congress on that day. Signers of the Declaration: Only two men—John Hancock and Charles Thomson—signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The rest signed it later. 3). Designer of the 50-Star Flag: The designer of the current 50-star American flag lived in Lancaster, Ohio. His name was Robert G. Heft, and he created the flag as a school project in 1958. 4). Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest has happened on each Independence Day since 1972. Where does the competition take place? Coney Island, New York. 5).
