Android: Adding song from edit playlist page crashes app

kendenny

Every time I add a song to my playlist Pandora has to restart. Sometimes it restarts and starts playing the same song it was playing when it restarted. Other times it reverts to the beginning of the play list. Also whenever it restarts for the first several seconds it thinks it's offline.

I've done the "clear data" thing under settings > apps > Pandora several times. It seems that after I do that I can add one song without Pandora crashing. But after that it crashes every time.

To add. After I do the "clear data" thing, shortly after starting listening again, I get a notice that someone else is listening and I have to choose "Let me listen".

I accidentally added a couple of songs to my playlist twice. I can't see any way to remove the duplicates. Also I did "add similar songs" a few times and one of the similar songs it added was one I don't want.

Is it possible to remove a song from a playlist?

Hi @kendenny

Version 2406.1.1 for Android was released recently, this should include a fix for the playlist crashing experience you reported. Can you please update to this version and try again.

If you continue to have trouble after the update, I would recommend performing the following steps to clear the cache/data and then try once more.

  1. Open your device Settings
  2. Tap Apps
  3. Scroll down to find Pandora
  4. Select Storage
  5. On the storage details page tap Clear Data.

Keep in mind that the steps for each Android device may be slightly different. If you find that these steps don't match exactly, I recommend checking the user manual for your specific Android.

Please note: You will be asked to log into your account after completing these steps and you may have to re-download any offline content you had.

Thank you!

@kendenny Nice to see you around the community.

App issues when adding songs to a playlist:

I'd be happy to help with any questions you have, but I will need additional information to do so.

Can you explain your issue a bit further?

To clarify, are you adding tracks to your playlist from the Now Playing screen, or are you visiting the playlist and adding tracks?

Additionally, can you please let us know if you have any trouble when not listening? For example, if the music is not playing and you add tracks to a playlist, do you have any trouble?

The more details you're able to provide, the better equipped I'll be to help.

I look forward to hearing back.

It seems to have corrected itself now. I've tried a number of different ways to add a song and everything is working correctly now.

Spoke too soon. Just added another song to my playlist and Pandora crashed. I had to do the Settings > Apps > Pandora >Storage > Clear Data thing. A song on the playlist was playing at the time I edited the playlist to add a new song.

Thanks for telling us @kendenny .

If you continue to have trouble, here are a few more things to check:

  1. Make sure the app is installed to the phone's local memory, rather than on an SD card. (Installing the Pandora app on an SD card causes performance issues we can't provide support for.)

  2. If you have a battery saver or task manager app, make exceptions for Pandora or try turning it off completely. You can adjust these settings in the App info section of your device. To get to the App info for Pandora:

    • Either long press on the icon on the home screen, then tap the (i) that appears, or

    • Go to your Android Settings, then Apps & Notifications, then Pandora. From there, tap Advanced > Battery >Background restriction. You will be prompted to remove the restriction.

    • You can also find helpful steps here.

  3. Lower your audio quality in the Settings menu. Open your Pandora app, go to Profile and select the Settings gear.

  •  If you're a Pandora Premium subscriber, select Audio Quality & Download.

  • If you're not a Pandora Premium subscriber, select Advanced and then uncheck Higher Quality Audio.

Hopefully this will help resolve any issues you're experiencing. Let me know how it goes.

All my Audio Quality settings are set to Standard

Every app needs restarting once in a while. I will put up with this as I now have a workaround. When I want to add a song to my playlist I will search for it then start playing it then "add to playlist" as that seems to not have the problem that editing the playlist has.

Thanks for following up, @kendenny.

I want to confirm the exact steps you are taking that lead to the crash.

For example:
  • Tap the playlist you want to add songs to
  • Tap Edit
  • Using the Search feature within Playlist Edit to find songs
  • Add song
  • Pandora crashes

Let me know if that is correct.

Yes. That is it. It doesn't happen every time but does happen frequently.

Thanks for confirming, @kendenny

I've passed these details along to our engineering team for further investigation. We'll follow up if we need additional information or maybe to test a few things out.

Thanks for your patience in the meantime. 🙌
