Android: Pandora Voice Search Does Not Respond to Commands

MusicFan78989

All of a sudden, voice search has stopped working. It will respond to, "Hey, Pandora" and open the search screen. When I speak, "Play...", the microphone icon pulses to the rhythm of my words, showing that it hears them. But nothing else happens. Then it usually returns back to the homepage. Yesterday, it crashed and restarted instead.

This is the same non-response, whether I am using wifi or cellular.

I have double checked that the app has permission to use my mic and the voice search is on (again, this started on its own, without having made any changes). I tried clearing all the app's data, updating the app, completely uninstalling and reinstalling, and double-checking it can run in the background without optimizing the battery. I just cleared out more memory on my phone too.

Still no change. Texting and emailing support just sends me back the same response on how to turn on Voice Search. It's on. I never turned it off. Now what?

I'm having the exact same problem. And I've had the problem on two different phones. The first phone was a Samsung Galaxy S10 active. The second phone is a Samsung Galaxy a15. On both phones the hey Pandora command works, but then when I give it further instruction it does nothing. Exactly as other people in this forum are describing.

The version of Pandora that I am using is 2409.1. Is there any solution to get the voice command function to work properly?

I've been having the same issue on a Pixel 8 for several months. Currently on version 2411.1. Tried reinstalling app and removing/re-adding microphone permissions. Still doesn't work. "Hey Pandora" works, but no other voice controls / searches.

Just did the same, thanks for the amazon recommendation!  Works perfectly for voice command and I can recommend it to anyone else having this issue with pandora.

Has anything been figured out with this. I'm paying for a family package and about to cancel my subscription. I contacted product support back in May reference #05089665. I thought maybe it was the Samsung a52 that I was using. I just upgraded to the Samsung s24 and it's doing this exact thing. I'm a commercial driver and can be fined and lose my job for touching my phone. Again as many have said, when saying the wake up phrase "Hey Pandora" the assistant will launch. And the microphone icon will fluctuate at though it's hearing me. But it does not respond to the command and just closes out the assistant.

I swapped to amazon music after about a year of this voice command issue.   **ahem** to lose all my Playlists and likes but I used it primarily for driving so I needed voice command to work. It's also cheaper,  $99 for a year so it was like 8.50 a month while pandora was charging me 12 a month for a broken app they don't seem able to fix....

Yeah I'll be looking at alternatives before my renewal. I use Google assistant to work pandora as much as possible. But half the time it doesn't work either

Original thread

https://community.pandora.com/t5/Android/Android-Pandora-Voice-Search-Does-Not-Respond-to-Commands/t...

Hello @AlyssaPandora and @AdamPandora

It has now been more than a year since this became a problem for what I expect are the majority of Pandora subscribers.

Pandora has not been forthcoming. Not about the cause of the problem, timelines for a fix or even whether they anticipate being able to fix it at all.

In July 2024, five months after @MusicFan78989 opened a ticket and a thread, I queried @AdamPandora for a status looking for something more substantial than " Our engineers are working on it". We got a reply from @AlyssaPandora saying....(in essence)

"Our engineers are working on it, we have no updates nor a timeline for a fix." July 2, 2024

And then silence and somewhere along the way i got a notification that this uninformative status from staff was being marked as a solution.

Thus I'm opening this new thread as I expect the original is now not reviewed by Pandora staff because it is marked as having a solution. The evidence for this is that there has been an absence of engagement by Pandora staff since. This is in spite of more than 25 subsequent additions to the thread by subscribers asking for help and/or updates. ... and just silence in return.

TL;DR Voice commands do not work, Pandora does not respond to the original problem statement. Subscribers are progressively getting more upset with the lack of substantive engagement from the company.

@AdamPandora @AlyssaPandora

What updates can Pandora offer now? After more than a year this is a very reasonable request.

It begins to look as if the problem is beyond Pandora's capacity to fix. Is this the case? (If yes, it's a bit unfair to subscribers to infer engineers are working on the problem)

If any progress has been made, is there a timeline available to a fix being deployed?

Is Pandora able to describe the root cause of the problem?

I too as well as my husbands phone cant use the voice beyond " Hey Pandora". PLEASE fix this. You seem to have lost a ton of subs due to NOT fixing the problem!!! 1-12-25
