Android: "Something has gone wrong" error when replaying songs

Moeb72
Local Performer

I receive an error message of "something has gone wrong. Please try again.", when I attempt to replay a song. I have cleared cache, cleared data, un-installed the app, and restarted the phone (all multiple times). I have a Samsung S23, please give me some guidance.

@Moeb72 Thank you for the detailed report of the issue you are experiencing.

Could you tell me a bit more about what is happening?

  1. To clarify, does that error message pop up for any song you try and replay, or only specific ones?
  2. Can you please do me a favor and send me a screenshot of the error message you're seeing?

(Please note you won't be able to attach images via email - you will need to open this Community link in a web browser in order to provide attachments)

Lastly, can you send over a bit more info about your device?

  • Android version (Settings > About Phone):
  • Pandora version:
    • If you can open Pandora, go to Profile, then select Settings. Scroll to the bottom of the screen for the version number.
    • If you can't open Pandora: from Android Home screen > Android Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Find Pandora

The more details you're able to provide, the better equipped I'll be to help.

I look forward to hearing back.

Hi @Moeb72 , thanks for the info and for the screenshots.

I have passed the current info to our engineering team so they can check it out, but we still need a bit more info. Can you tell me more about this?

I checked your account and it looks like you are currently on free service. As a free service listener, in order to be able to replay songs you will be prompted to see an ad to unlock the replays. Were you able to see the ad?

Thanks for your help with this!

No, I receive the error message before I can see any ads.

It seems all songs now they will not allow replay on free Pandora!

Sad!

@Ace123 I'd be happy to help with any questions you have, but I will need additional information to do so.

Can you explain your issue a bit further?

Does the replay icon no longer show on the now playing screen? If so, can you please send me a screenshot of what you are seeing?

Wow, thank you for your reply! Do not see where I can upload screenshot.

It basically says: "Something has gone wrong please try again. Then you see the "ok" button and it repeats the same.

I used to be able to replay songs with free app. Now this always pops up. Last time I connected with Pandora they said to uninstall then reinstall, which i did. Same scenario.  Then they said purchase the upgrade.

Thanks for your time Adam in getting some answers for me! Have

@Ace123 Thanks for following up with that information.

To clarify, when you tap on the replay icon, that error message appears?

In the meantime, I've enabled a trace on your account to help us better understand what's happening.

For this trace to be useful, we'll need you to run through our troubleshooting steps once more: Troubleshooting for Android Devices

Thanks for working with me on this.

Adam not my area of expertise,  but if I clear data here, does it clear data on my phone or just Pandora app? Thanks for patience and support! Grateful!

@Ace123 That will clear the data specifically for the Pandora app.

Let me know if you continue to run into issues with this.

@Ace123 Yes - that is the correct way to delete app data/cache.

Let me know how it goes.

It's the exact same image as Ace123's. Happens on every song I try to replay.

Hey Adam, that link loaded a blank page on my android. 🤷‍

Also, the repeat button works when I'm connected to my Ford, and it worked on the rental Kia we had recently. But it still doesn't work if my phone isn't connected to anything.

@Kendyr To clarify, are you connected to your Ford via Bluetooth (and the rental car as well at the time)?

In the meantime, here are the suggested troubleshooting steps that were linked above that we would like you to try out:

Basic Troubleshooting on Android

  1. Clear data* for Pandora in your phone's settings.
    • Press the menu key from the home screen on your device (not your Pandora app).
    • Tap Settings.
    • Tap Apps.
    • Select Pandora.
    • Tap Clear data from the storage details page (you may have to tap Storage to see that option).
  2. Return to the Pandora app, and log back into your account after completing the above steps.

Keep in mind that the steps for each Android device are slightly different. If you have a Pixel, you can find helpful steps here.

*Pandora Premium and Premium Family listeners may need to re-download some of their offline content after this. Pandora Plus users, however, should receive that offline content again automatically. If you have any trouble with your offline stations after this, please let us know.

Advanced troubleshooting for Android devices

If you find you're still having issues with the Pandora App after completing those steps, continue onto the next section:

  1. Make sure the app is installed to the phone's local memory, rather than on an SD card (installing the Pandora app on an SD card causes performance issues we can't provide support for).

  2. If you have a battery saver or task manager app, make exceptions for Pandora or try turning them off completely.
  3. Lower your audio quality in the Settings menu. To get to your Settings, open your Pandora app to the station list, tap the Profile icon, and select the Settings gear from the top right corner of your screen.
    • If you're a Pandora Premium subscriber: Select Audio Quality & Download.
    • If you're not a Pandora Premium subscriber: Select Advanced and then uncheck Higher Quality Audio.

Then, try Pandora again. If the issue continues, please proceed with the instructions in the next section.

Keep in mind, that the steps to find certain settings on Android devices can be different depending on the type of Android phone you have, as well as what Android OS you are running.

If you're having trouble completing these steps, try contacting your device's manufacturer for further help with navigating their operating system.

Disable Android Battery Optimization

Double check that you have Battery Optimization for Pandora disabled in the Android settings.

While the steps for all Android versions are different, these battery settings can usually be found in the Settings under "Device Management," "Battery," or "Battery Usage."

Take a look for this setting on your device and select Optimize battery usage. Then scroll through your apps until you find Pandora, and make sure that optimization is turned off.

If you're having trouble completing these steps, try contacting your device's manufacturer for further help with navigating their operating system.

Note: We do not support Pandora on rooted or unlocked phones, unofficial OS releases, or custom ROMs. We only support Pandora on configurations that we have fully tested, so as to ensure the application will work correctly and won't cause any problems with functions of the device.

Remove background restrictions

Please ensure that you have your device set to allow Pandora to run in the background.

  • From the home screen or app drawer press and hold the Pandora icon.
  • Tap the "i" icon to access the App info.
  • Next select Advanced, then Battery.
  • Confirm that Background restriction is set to "App can use battery in background".
If Background restriction states "Restricted", tap on Background restriction to remove restriction.

Let me know how it goes.

Okay, I've completed all the troubleshooting steps, in addition to uninstalling and reinstalling, and still experiencing the same error.

Regarding vehicle connections, I connect via a cord to my Ford, but the rental car was via Bluetooth. Have started experiencing the error intermittently in my Ford as well.
