Tbh I have both. Spotify and Youtube both are better for me when I have a specific playlist/song/artist I want to listen to. Pandora however gets overall more time from me, as I use it to keep a constant stream of specific music while I work. It's more set-it-and-forget-it. I've found that Spotify's generated playlists are generally not as good. Sometimes I'll click on a playlist they've generated for an artist, and I only hear one song from that artist and then just other ones I don't like as much. No input i Make ever sticks, which is an ongoing problem they haven't been able to solve for months, if not a year + for me. I think I've invested too much time adjusting my Pandora stations to suit my needs for Spotify to really match that. I've also found Spotify has a lot more issues with bad ads. Not bad as in low quality, but bad as in, "Please stop advertising this true crime of a murdered girl; I'm uncomfortable," or "Stop interrupting my peaceful music with horrific screaming to advertise a Halloween horror attraction." Apparently other people have had ads for gambling and other adult-only things on kid-friendly playlists, too. 😕

Not a mod or offering professional advice here but: Is this on browser, on a version of Pandora with ads? I’ve had that issue in the past, and it always seemed to boil down to an issue with an ad. Not sure if it fails to fully load or plays through and doesn’t move on to the next audio. It basically skips over, starts the next song, but doesn’t register to start the next song’s audio. I’ve also had it skip an entire song, list a second one, and play music from the first. Refreshing usually solves it, but it’s still extremely frustrating when it happens a lot. Haven’t had this happen in a while, though. If you are on browser, there is some very general advice, since there isn’t more info to go off of: - Make sure your browser is fully updated - Clear browser cache and resign in to see if that helps - Make sure you don’t have adblockers enabled, especially if you have a version of Pandora with ads. Since they’re intended to not be blocked, this can cause weird conflicts.

There might be error issues happening with thumb/seed lists. I don't know if this is the same issue this user is having, but today I noticed that if I check a particular station and click to view all seeds/thumb ups/thumb downs, I get an error page. I have to completely refresh my tab to make it go away. This is on the most updated version of Firefox. Currently unable to test on other browsers.

Not sure what these last few posts are about - the specific feature request for this thread is actually for the user to have control and choose specific artists they don't want to hear. This is not about Pandora's overall site.

I doubt that this is a feature that Pandora will even implement due to pressure from record labels, but I do wish it was one and would even consider being a paid member if it was implemented for membership. Not just for blocking out controversial artists - just to block ones who repeatedly show up despite thumbs down. I have one particular group who shows up frequently on one of my stations because, generally, their sound matches the other music there. But I do not care for their singer's voice and would rather not waste tons of thumb downs (which have been having issues sticking, as noted in another forum thread) on a specific artist over and over. Likewise, anyone who listens to instrumental or classical stations probably knows the frustrations of Pachelbel's Canon in D. Since this tune is so ubiquitous, has been covered so many times, and has a chord progression frequently found in other music, it's nearly impossible to stop it from playing. One time I had 12 versions of it play on one station in one day despite downvoting every one I could. Twelve. While blocking Pachelbel's music wouldn't stop any performances Pandora lists under the performing artist, it would stem the unforgiving tide from the classical compilation albums that seem to jam it in at every opportunity.

I am having the Firefox issues on two different computers, both using Windows 10. The one was having only minimal problems but has now started playing overlapping songs like the other one, even without any skipping tunes or voting up/down. Just started playing Open Heart Open Mind by Moonlight Echoes and Between the Shadows by Loreena McKennitt at the same time. It started playing Open Heart, skipped immediately to Between the Shadows, but continued playing both despite marking Open Heart as the "last played" track on the station. This is second computer having this issue and in a different location/internet access. No firewall problems or network connection problems. Restarted/all potential solutions stated have been tried. We actually had the entire internet connection reset less than a week ago and are currently running speeds several times faster than when the issues first began. No ad blockers being used.

This past week, I've suddenly noticed issues with Pandora browser on Windows 10. Both Firefox and Chrome are having separate problems. This includes private/incognito mode and making sure ad blockers etc. are off.
Firefox
Sometimes starts two songs at once and plays both. Both appear in my tracklist, one after another, but play at the same time. Current latest two are The Supine by Andrew Bird and The Celts by Enya on my Beneath the Night Sky station. If I pause, sometimes both will stop, or sometimes only the most recent track stops. As soon as I hover over the tab again, they start on their own, sometimes even still being shown as paused. I have to refresh to fix it. This happens randomly, both when I manually ask it to skip a track and when it naturally moves from a completed track to a new one. I’m listening on My Station mode. Other station modes behave the same way.
It also randomly skips one or two songs between tracks, especially if I have to reload the page for the above issue. Sometimes skips 2-3 in a row when I tell it to skip one track.
Chrome
Does not skip tracks, but occasionally has a long lag time - up to 15 seconds - between them during normal play. Sometimes a station pauses itself at the end of a song and requires me to manually start it again. Last time this happened it had only played about 3 tracks, and there was no “are you still listening” notification. It just stops on its own.
This all started the morning of July 05.
mod edit: changed title for clarity

Somehow the High Kings' Memory Lane album has had an "explicit" added to the end of it. I'm not sure why. I've been listening to this album for years, and it's never had that marking before. It's not an explicit album and is not labeled that way anywhere. I'm assuming the algorithm has once again messed up and melded information from something similarly named, but unrelated. I'm assuming this is quite bad for the band/music label if listeners have explicit content turned off, and their music is incorrectly being blocked. https://www.pandora.com/artist/the-high-kings/memory-lane-explicit/ALqtVdf425pKtgk

I'm not sure if it's since the beginning but it's been a long time. If you listened constantly 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, that would be somewhere at/over 2000 hours a year, so 7k is substantial.

Apologies, not intending to be curt (it's hard to get tone across correctly online!), but I'm not sure if you really read my post or are kind of obligated to give those general answers to everything before proceeding... I think I addressed basically everything you replied with. My current main issues are: - My station altered drastically after I thumbed up a single track. I removed that track and continued thumbing down unfitting tracks after, but I'm still experiencing stylistic changes based on the removed thumbs-up. None of the my thumbed-up tracks reflect the country/western attributes that have been cropping up despite my thumb-downs. I really need some way to check if there are country or generally western themed attributes that have been added to the station, which is something I can't do that myself. - My "Modes" are not playing as they're supposed to and actually have not for a year +. I went into it a little here but have spoken to you on the forums in the past about this happening in my other stations. Crowd Faves at times plays artists I don't even know or who don't fit the station. Deep Cuts plays either unfamiliar artists or overplayed/even seed tracks that run 2-3 times a day on the main station mode. Not lesser played at all. Last week the only break this mode took from overplayed songs was playing unfamiliar artists instead that were styled after the thumbs-up that I removed. Discovery gives me music from seed/main station artists, too, sometimes even a literal seed song. My issues with modes have been mentioned multiple times before and never had a solution...but it's a problem that's been persisting. I'm not sure what Pandora's Mode system is doing, but it's not functioning as intended for me. You've recommended the Pandora Plus to me before, but you haven't clarified how that would help me. I have been new stations in this style to find new music in the same style as my station, which a playlist won't do. I"m not sure if there's any Plus feature that would help that.

I'm currently having issues with my Beneath the Starry Night station. A couple weeks ago, I thumbed up a track that was similar in style to the music on the station and by an artist I wasn't familiar with, to try and add a little bit of variety. Emphasis on a little. Since then, the entire station altered because of this one track. Half the time, it refuses to play the mellow piano/string combo music I intended it for and plays to folk/western inspired twangy stuff instead. I removed the thumbs up that caused the initial problem and have thumbed down tracks that pop up, but it still persists, and it's not removing whatever musical elements it dragged in. Now, when I do hear music from the original seed/thumbed up artists on the station, it's often the same ones over and over and over and over. Deep Cuts, which is supposed to be playing less heard pieces by main artists on the station, is playing either the same overplayed pieces from the main channel or pieces from artists I've never heard of, who fall under the twangy western sound I don't want. I heard one overplayed song from a seed artist, about 5 tunes that didn't fit, then the same seed artist tune again. Discovery is also a complete wreck and giving me either the same repetitive tunes from familiar artists or stuff that is unrelated to the original intention of the station. At this point I can't switch modes on that station anymore because my attempts to correct things have run me out of skips. I've been trying for days to correct things with thumbs ups/etc. and it just won't... I'm at a loss what to do. This is the 3rd/4th time I've created a station in this music style to try and get around the Pandora's issues of repetition/playing music that doesn't suit the station. It seems to happen over and over. I can't keep creating a new one every few weeks. and I don't want Pandora premium to 'make a custom playlist' as I'm trying to add variety to the station while still maintaining the same style of music. I can't add variety when I am not getting new artists that match what I want. At this point, is there at least a way for someone in the back-end to remove any country/western-themed station notes that might be buried in that particular station? Because it seems like the system doesn't care what I tell it now. This is weeks of station tuning completely wrecked and now I have to go back to one of my old ones and pray it doesn't get repetitious again, too.

Looks like another link is now not working related to the Pandora community. When I am using Pandora in a browser and click the "community" link from the drop-down menu, I get an Internal server error. Tried this from multiple browsers like Firefox and MS Edge. Latest updates on all. I can only access the community by hand-typing the URL in my browser or accessing through a search engine. This has been happening for over a week.

Thanks Adam - it seems to be working today! I was able to click my notifications when I logged in and see that you replied, instead of having to find the thread myself to check. 🙂

An Unexpected Error has occurred. Every time I access the community from desktop, I see at least one notification on my alerts at the top right. However, which I click, it ALWAYS says the following: Your request failed. Please contact your system administrator and provide the date and time you received the error and this Exception ID: 7C4F5484. Click your browser's Back button to continue. Is this an internal issue on Pandora's part? Where I log in from, what browser I use, privacy settings, and removing add-ons/extensions make no difference. This is across the board on Firefox, Chrome, multiple computers.

Sorry, I was not clear enough - when I say covers of popular songs, I mean instrumental ones. No lyrics. I thumb those down along with popular Classical pieces, as I don't want familiar tunes or ones with rhythms heavily based to fit lyrics in them, yet Pandora still is selecting these things for me over and over. I don't see anything in my seeds or thumbs that would do this. I've tried. Most of my thumbs/seeds are from the same artists as the old station. I have tried to ask here before and received no answer - how would Premium improve my ability to add variety besides just allowing more thumbs down if wanted? I do not want a custom playlist or on-demand playing. Literally I wan the opposite. This station was created at Mod's recommendation (I cannot recall if you was you or someone else who spoke to me, sorry) since my original station was repeating certain tracks too often, and sorting seeds under strange categories like like Deep Cuts. Basically, not getting new songs in the style I want has been a problem now for 6-8 months.

My Frozen in Time station is set up to be a pared down, simple (mostly-instrumental) collection of pieces based around largely piano + violin or cello. I use it to focus on other tasks. While some pieces I have upvoted are based off of hymns, I’m downvoting anything with background “ambient” noises like waves or birds; covers of pop songs; and traditionally Classical works like concertos, suites, canons, etc. This includes really well-known Classical pieces. Basically, I don’t want bgd sound effects, I don't want ambiently slow spa/sleep pieces, and I don’t want tunes that are so common or heavily based on lyrics that I’m paying attention to that instead of using the music to focus. Unfortunately, the algorithm seems to spontaneously ignore these preferences, and at this point, my thumbs on the station are about 1-to-2 favoring downvotes. I’ve downvoted 5-6 versions just of Pachelbel’s Canon in D! Today, I had another well-known Classical piece pop up in the algorithm. I figured since it was a piano sonata, it just selected it because of that, but when I clicked “Why This Song?” it said one of the reasons was it was an “Acclaimed piece.” This is what I've been avoiding and downvoting! I’ve also had it multiple times select things “Because” it has a slow ambient pace or background ambient sounds despite me consistently downvoting these, too. What’s going on, here? How do I get the algorithm to stop selecting styles I’m downvoting as recommendations? Please note: deleting and starting the channel over isn’t an option. This is one that was already created as a successor to another station that started repeating the same songs over and over or picking things that didn’t fit at all. I can’t keep making and retailoring a new station every 4-6 months, and clearly that hasn't been working anyway, as evidenced by the high downvote rating on this 'new' station.
