Some of the talk around odd signatures in rock, has come up because of French misfits Angine de Poitrine  They fall into the loose genre called "math rock" which means music played in odd time signatures by indie/rock/punk bands. There are also bands from the 90's reuniting that were pioneers of the genre.  My favorite indie rock band that challenged the notion of rock in odd time signatures was Don Caballero. I loved watching the drummer play and the guitarist and bass player seemingly noodling along with the unpredictable rtythms. Agreed, piggybacking on existing recognition is probably a big one.  I'm really wondering if there's a push from the owners of the sampled content. I know that in recent years, big investment firms have bought up the rights to tons of back catalog and are seeking ways to monetize that material. It wouldn't surprise me if there are some deals being made to recirculate that music via sampling. It would be an interesting thing for a music writer to investigate. ... View more
